Myrfs,
'IF' the coin is in the steering wheel, remove the two airbag fuses from the fuse box, then simply remove the two torx bolts on the side of the wheel, the airbag will come out, then simply put the screws back..... and the fuses...
Removing the fuses is simply a safe gaurd....
For re-assurance see here...

I cant believe you took advice from here
for your info, the correct way to safely work on the SRS sytem is as follows.
disconnect the battery, and wait 30 mins before commencing any work.
The fit an earth strap to yourself and attach to the cars negative side
or make sure you are earthed out before starting work
SRS sytems feature many capacators, which retain enough charge to deploy the airbags, should they need to.
removing fuses, may offer some protection, but time /total power disconnection/ earthing yourself is the only way to be sure

copy, paste and go on the above
From a manual, disconnect ground, wait 20 seconds and unscrew bolts and take it out.
Doesnt sound too complicated.

The manuals good,
but if they actually told you how dangerous it could be !! many times i was called to an oem,s car plant to examine a car that one or more bags had deployed because somone had done work or not followed the correct procedures when working with the SRS system,
these things need seriously low voltages to deploy, static from your hands can set one off, believe me!!! and the noise and mess is phenominal.
not to mention that should you deploy one bag, not only have you got to replace a bag, but you also have to replace the SRS ECU as well,
and they ar,nt cheap!!
a certain well know oem had a major rework programme done on some of there bags, if it needed replacing it was a whole interior stripout!! because of where the bag was located, we managed to devise an in situ method for them, the cost if it dodnt work was potentially horrendous!!
to give you an idea of how dangerous these things are,
they deploy in milliseconds, and a single propellant unit can fire the the whole unit 6ft from its resting place.

You now the funny part, with all that could have happened. The damn penny had worked its way to the centre of the wheel and was just about to drop out from between the steering wheel and hub anyway. If I had waited or have given it a slight shake it would have popped out.
