Why the big need for a vote?

People use cars in different ways therefore their tyre needs are different. My needs are totally different from Jock Mc Tavish's for instance (made up name )

Red face

Fair point. Suffice to say I am interested in the average/typical verdict. Also, I am hoping any real bad ones will stick out from the comments. Basically I know very little about tyres and I am keen to tap the great scooby knowledge.

There are plenty of old thread on here telling you exactly what you are after. Try doing a search.......

My own two pennith is that I tried Toyo's and F1 GSD3's and found them to be much of a muchness. If I had the car out of shape because of these tyres I would have been driving like an idiot and didnt deserve the keys.

I also used Dunlop SP Sport race on-track and these performed well as semi slick road legal soft tyres.........

Yeh, well I thought I'd try and drum up as big a survey as possible before I go and buy myself a new set of tyres okay? Is that okay by you?
Its quite logical really. And its information for everyone.

Just go to Hi-Q, tell them what size you want. As long as it's a make you've heard of you should be fine.

Default Tyre Choice

Vredestein Ultrac, not widely available but what a brilliant tyre. Better than the Avon ZZ3s I had before and they were good. The Ultrac is so grippy in the dry and just cuts through wet roads. Anyone else tried them ?

Thumbs up

Thanks to all the tyre voters so far!!!
I have just bought my Scooby a nice set of four Goodyear Eagle F1s.
But, just to show this exercise has not been totally selfish I promise to keep adding up the votes on tyres every so often so we can keep a running tally on the Wheels, Tyres and Brakes forum.
I can confirm that I won't be posting like a maniac on the general board any more - its just to hectic!!!

Moderators,

Can we not have a limit on how many smilies these kids can use in a thread?

Worse than watching strobe lighting!

Default Tyred of smileys

My opinion on the round balck stuff:

Avons - cack, not suited at all (Z3s I think) Flogged them after a month.

Falkens - cheap and slidey - fun in the wet, but a bit of a liability.

Goodyear F1 (2s and 3s) - Lovely and predictable, grippy, last well.

Getting Toyo R1s tomorrow, hope they are good.

Just buy something well known. Toyos and Goodyear seem to be very popular on the whole.

I belive that is AVON ZZ1 tyres

- aka Hedgefinders. No longer made thank goodness - replaced by ZZ3 which is supposed to perform much better in direct comparison - although I wouldn't know though. (one set of ZZ1s was enough to put me off Avons for good ).

My review:

Dry grip: good but quite sudden and rapid breakaway at the limit - esepcially when cold.

Damp and wet: Very poor, low overall grip levels in all circumstances (traction, cornering and braking). Although they do remain controllable. Amplifies the poor handling dynamics of the Impreza (pushes very wide on corner entry, and the tendency to snap back if it ever breaks into oversteers).

Wear: Very good; they never seem to wear out.

Verdict - cheap tyre: you get what you pay for.
