Ignore all the idiots who quote glasses and those stupid little guides but have never actually been a car dealer or traded in a WR1.
I recently traded in my 04 WR1 and got well over 20k.
If you go to a dealer outside of Subaru, i.e. volvo, ensure that they quote you for the correct car. I.e. An Impreza WRX STi WR1. They have a sneaky habit of quoting you a price for an STi, and when you are in the dealership sometimes you don't think and will just accept the deal to get the new car. they know this so will try and sneak it in. Make sure you see the quotation and that when they call to get prices that they are talking about a WR1.
Some dealerships I went to, i.e. mercedes, didn't even know what car mine was and got me a price on a WRX!!!! I said no it's a WR1 and they were like - but it's the same thing sir!!!!!!! PMSL - and these people are supposed to be car dealers!!!!
Basically if it's in good condition and done under 30,000 miles you should get 20k or over. NOT under!
As I said above ignore whatever people tell you the guides say. They are just guides and are frequently wrong and contain incorrect data.

that is still a lot of depreciation ~£10,000 in less than 2 years, people have to learn if you constantly chop and change cars you lose big money -keep the car and enjoy it

For a car that's done 30,000 miles and is two years old to loose less than 10k in depreciation is bloody excellent!!
A regular STi or Jap Import would loose a hell of a lot more than that!!!
Goes to show that the WR1 has a lot of appeal and is going along the same lines as the P1.
Proof is in the pudding!!! Not statistics!

May (could have been as early as April?) 2004 when they started to arrive at dealers though to July for the last ones iirc.
So yes, about 20/21 months old.

errr thread's about trade in value of WR1 not what version of scoob you prefer!!
WR1s started arriving Apr 2004. so nearly two years old.
At the end of the day they are holding their money better than standard STis and Jappy Imports so the point is that you should be expecting well over £20k for your 04 model. In answer to the question asked and the point of this thread!

Rasher ... I currently own a WR1 plus one other car (which is probably worth more than martin's house!!). The WR1 is in the process of being sold though and replaced with another Subaru which is going to be a project car, as I didn't want to butcher the WR1 due to it being a special edition and being worth good money.
Martin ... grow up!

Rasher ... I agree with you when you say what something is worth vrs What someone will pay etc etc etc. However the fact is that the WR1 owners that are starting to trade their 04 cars in are getting much better residual prices than STis of the same year. There is no real debate in it as it's fact. None of the owners expect someone to come along and pay £30k but we all knew and it has been proved that when it came to sell the WR1 would hold it's money quite well - which it has. Under 7k depreciated in two years isn't at all bad!
Martin will disagree because he has always been one of the jealous little ******* that could never afford a WR1 so decided that he would slate them at every given opportunity, instead of being a true enthusiast and giving credit where credit is due. He's just pissed off that he was wrong about them being worth nothing!! hahahahahaha 'L for love'

Rare cars or special editions like the WR1 will always hold there value better than the regular counterpart. I owned a Focus RS, and in 2 years I only lost £3k when I sold it.

Its all about the price-to-change. The more you get for trade-in, the more you pay for your new car. And vice-versa.
All some people are bothered about is how much they get for for their car. I've seen people walk away from deals where the price-to-change is better, but their p/x price is not.
You might want to bear in mind, that for every pound above bottom book you are offered for trade-in, the stealer is making it up on the car you are buying.
A certain luxury car has an RRP of £80k, yet only costs dealers £63k, effectively giving them £17k to play with ie give better p/x price.
You might find that between reaching a deal and collecting the car, the figures have changed to show a lower retail price and p/x price, but the price-to-change is the same. Use to do that regularly.
And no matter what, stealers rarely make a loss.
