Talking MY06 STI With aftermarket exhaust anyone ?

My wife and I drove the UK MY 06 STI on Saturday and I hadn't slept the night before with excitement! I'm looking to replace an MY99 STI 5 type R V-ltd for something more family orientated to go on long drives/holiday with. However I still need the grin factor! Anyway I could have cried when I got out of the MY06 STI as it was the most boring characterless car I have been in since an Audi I won't be able to afford a Spec C before anyone says! So has anyone been in or heard an 06 STI with a different exhaust i.e a Miltek ect. Does this give more noise and so a bit more character? or is it still quiet ? Hope someone can help
Cheers Col

Hi Col

I to missed to burble from my previous MY04 when I upgraded to a MY06 JDM. I replaced the standard system with one by Milltek.

Whilst I still miss out on the burble, I now have an amazing sound higher up the rev range.

Are you not bothered by the warranty of your new car. I am in the same boat as you wanting a slightly louder exhaust to hear the burble more, but I phoned my dealer today asking about the warranty, he basically said IF something goes wrong i.e. engine what ever, and they can get off paying it through the warranty then they will, not saying the garage mind, the warranty company this is. But I have never ever heard of this going wrong just by fitting a back box .

Then as a follow up he said just buy the exhaust I want, then if the s*** happens and warranty is talked about put the old box back on.

I'm thinking of the Scoobyworld RaceBox, nice looks, and seemed to sound very nice on the movie clip!.

Wait for the PPP to be released then try and grab a ride in a demo.

Should be closer to what you want

HI Darren, To be honest the warranty doesn't really bother me to much I have a very good dealer and so should be OK as they are into tuning !
Cheers GrollySTI I'm not planning on changing the car just yet as am just getting my facts/money together so will try a PPP as well as some other cars.

Most dealers don't consider a backbox a engine mod, so the warranty is often unaffected, some feel the same way about the centre section too! However, some get cold feet whenever ANY modificaiton is mentioned.

You MUST of course tell your insurance about any mods you make.

As regards to the warranty....well.. A Backbox and a centre section take about 5 mins to swap if you get my drift!

Alternatively, just wait until prodrive release the WR backbox for the 06??

Have you got a UK 2.5?

If so, I wondered how it affects the performance.

just test driven a my06 wrx and a new sti 8(my05) and must say that i was very unimpressed with the 06 but the sti8 was great fun and very easy to drive at a reasonable pace, it also felt more confident then the 06 so in all left very dissapointed with the new 06 model

yep

performance - dunno officially yet (RR in a couple of weeks) but it certainly seems quicker and more responsive but it was done for sound primarily.

The standard exhaust is just too quiet.

Re your experience Stevey - That has a lot to do with the suspension geometry - get that changed and as stable as anything but with a superb wide power band and bags of torque.
