Default To chip or not to chip? that is my question

I've had my scoob for a little while now and I think it's time to breathe a bit more life into our love affair. It's a classic '98 with a de-cat and panel filter. I think some sort of ECU upgrade (Phase 2 ECU?) is the next step.

The only qualm I have is that the engine won't take kindly to this new addition. The car has covered 74k. What do you think?

dont bother with a chip.fit an apexi pfc or if you can afford it a link ecu or something similar. You get more gains from doing this than a chip and far more control, also everytime you put a performnce part on you can adjust the ecu.
Just my opinion tho,ive a apexi pfc with the commander.Best mod ive invested in

quite strong engines, 74k is nothing, just make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing to map it properly

Is it a uk, import wrx/sti???
You can't really 'chip' or remap your existing ecu. An after market ecu such an Apexi Power FC, mapped properly, will see significant gains, and actually improve the reliability of your engine.
Andy F (north) and Jolly Green Monster (south) can supply fit and map for around £800.
If your car is a uk turbo, you should see (with your mods) anything upto 270bhp/ 270lbft torque with this mod.

Why not put your money towards a mapable ECU which caters specifically for your engine running perameters. A chip is designed for all vehicles of a particular model and cannot optimise settings to a specific set of circumstances.

mine has similar milage to yours.it hasnt caused me any problems at all.the car runs alot better after it was set up properly.and at the lowest boost setting of which there are 4 which you can select yourself,it was more economical.once fitted and mapped properly youll notice a big difference in your car.
