Default Rear strut's 03 sti GGGGGGGRRRRRRR

Enough is enough guy's
The issue with the rear strut's on the new-age sti is getting silly now
I have had mine replaced three times(the last being Three weeks ago)

They have started thudding once again,Is there no solution to this problem
I am thinking of some aftermarket jobbie's,But will this solve the problem as i have heard of problems with the top mounts(as these have been changed three times also)

Please guy's and specialist's out there, give me a few idea's as im coming to the end of my patience over this problem,And the option of chopping the sti in for a 06 wrx starting to gather momentum

I gather the dealer has been replacing the struts with new ones from IM, ordered using the part number on the computer.

There are modified units available from IM, but the the part number isnt issued to dealers unless they specifically ask for the modified struts.

My dealer managed to get a reply from IM after alot of phone calls along the lines of "a bulletin has been issued".

Get the dealer to speak to IM and ask for the modified units, had mine replaced last year & no problems since.

Good luck.

I've just had my front suspension & other things that I can't remember done last week. Had a knocking noise over bumps. 05 STI.

Seems Subaru don't make cars that strong.

If a part repeat breaks as this does its down to the manufacturer to find a design solution and retro-fit all the cars in the field. However that costs money so they would prefer you to have to bring your car in every few months for replacements .....

Do the JDM cars of the same year suffer with this problem, or do they have different suspension?

I am looking at getting a JDM STI and if this is the case I will make sure I keep my ears open for any knocking noises from the rear

Same as me m8, days of chelmsford got the modified rear struts and top mounts from subaru.
They did a wonderful job and I have had no knocking since, and that was last summer.
It seems to depend on what the parts guys have ordered, you need the modified parts. Days are really on the ball and knew about the problem as soon as i said 'ive got a 03sti and it's knocking'

Default All 03 stis?

Does this affect all 03 sti's as mine as yet is fine, it's also getting very close to the end of the warrenty period, is it something the dealer should do anyway if they know about it? ie recall the car?

Same here, mine's completely fine (I think) How loud is this knocking, surely I would have noticed it?

Perhaps the question should be, who hasn't had them replaced

Part number for new strut's supplied by technical dept at IM

Rear struts 02>sti - 20360FE841
- 20360FE851

old pat number - 20360FE840
- 20360FE850

I phoned to check the part number's before mine goes back in on friday
This will be my forth set in 20,000 miles. My car is out of warranty by three weeks,But the strut's as all o.e part's carry a 12 month warranty i believe, and as the last set were fitted only four weeks ago,i think's i will be getting this issue sorted or "duke's of hazzard" mode through the dealer window i go
