In a nutshell YOU shouldn't be looking for anything (unless you're a competent mechanic with a good working knowledge of Subarus). No disprespect intended, but for a performance car it is ESSENTIAL that you get it looked at by someone who knows the cars well.

Other than that, usual rules:

-HPI check
-FSH a must with Scoobies
-Lowest number of owners possible, speak to them if you can
-What's the current owner like, do you get the impression he really liked the car, or just "ran it" for his period of ownership- the clues are all there.
-Be aware that if the car is coming up to certain services, you're going to be landed with a big bill early on etc...

the one i am looking at has had two owners and appears to have zero mods. two years first as a company car, second a private for 3 years. Loads of receits for oil changes etc and service history appears present. its on 79,000 so is it due any big service intervals?

I'm stuck for a mechanic, my general knowledge of cars is ok but not sure what to look for on a scooby and no offense taken

I appreciate the help

Whereabouts are you mate, there might be a specialist nearby that'd be only too happy to have a look for you (for a few quid obviously)

Service interval and price info can be obtained from this site to give you a ball park figure of how much specialists charge.

http://www.xtremescoobies.co.uk/servicing.htm

If you're in the SE these chaps are brilliant. I've used them from the outset.

All the best.

East Herts boy here, always used them for the scoob, great bunch of lads.

If I was buying again, I would look in the for sale section on here, quite a few cars owned by enthusiasts and well looked after.

Best of luck

that car looks spot on but out of my price range slightly.

I'll keep an eye on the for sale section, most appear to be the newer models than i am looking for

Thanks to all for the info

Just to add, if it has a FMIC there's no option but to fit an induction kit.

Also, if it's an import it's very unlikely that it'll have a SH before the date it was imported into the UK.

Well overpriced.
Should be looking at around 7k for an unmodified car like that.
Mine is same condition, with ecu & exhaust mods on 50K. Two owners, dealer sold and maintained and I have EVERY bill for every job. Gave 6.5K for it.

Keep looking and be cheeky... its a crap time to be selling cars!

I'm not looking to go over 7k and UK cars only or the insurance seems to get silly

got four test drives arranged tomorrow, all cars have full histories, UK spec, all standard except one with the prodrive pack

going to be fun

thanks to everyone for the pointers

Hey thats my car and its not overpriced!

Its worth what somebody will pay for it. My car has 10,000 miles less than yours which for somebody who only wants it as a second car might be 2 years worth of mileage. Also I think an unmodified car is worth more to certain buyers such as younger people who's insurance will be high. It also proves that the car hasnt been messed about with!!

The looking stops here.

Totally standard with no mods so you know the cars never been messed with
Full Subaru service up to last service which was done by API Engine (one of the best)
Make me a sensible offer and its yours at the right price.
with VERY hard to find A/C on a classic Subaru.
