I know its the wrong forum but I might get more response here. I have a uk my 2000 with a full scooby sport exhaust, itg filter and bumpsteer mod. the question is whats next?
any ideas/ suggestions would be appreciated

If you want to seriously up the pace, then brakes and suspension should be next, along with some expert driving instruction to get the most out of it

Cheers for the excelent job you did on my WRX on Friday. Driving home on Saturday morning it was like driving a different car.

How about fitting Eibachs or similar?
Not advisable on grey imports, but lurvely on UK cars.
You seem to have covered most other aspects, but as Pete says, brakes are also important especially if you intend going on any tracks.

Rob Mac and Simon De Banke can do "one to one" courses and are worth every penny. Rob is a former racer and is now an ARDS Instructor at Donington and Silverstone, Simon has many years experience looking out of the side windows whilst driving rally cars.

I think Stef may have got that the wrong way round.
I think what he means is that many have found the standard dampers on UK cars struggle when fitted with the stiffer Eibachs whereas the Bilstein dampers that are standard on STis (and I believe on WRXs although they are stiffer than UK items regardless) complement them nicely.
For the ultimate suspension however you should look at LEDA, although this is a little expensive and quite specialised.

Surely the "ultimate" suspension would be a fully adjustable competition system from Bilstein/Proflex/Ohlins or suchlike with full factory backup... After all, I suspect that Subaru/Prodrive could probably save a packet if they fitted Leda C to all their WRC cars...

Fitting the right brake kit/bits will add more to the car's pace than adding bucketloads of power. I must stress that finding the right kit is the trick.
I'd recommend doing a few searches on both BBS's before buying a brake kit, it could well save you a lot of time, money, dissapointment, stress and grief.
Eibachs work fine on my "grey import"... maybe I'm just lucky...

It has taken me all night but I have finally managed to split a 4 inch hair entirely along its length...
I was really offering an opinion on "off the shelf" setups. I have been in a few cars now with various setups and found the LEDA performed the best followed by (in my opinion again of course) an STi with Eibachs (yes you guessed it, my STi with Eibachs).
Suspension is of course very subjective and personal within the bounds of overall "good performance".

No, it was right first time.
Eibach make their Pro-Kit for European models of the Impreza. There is no kit specifically for Jap imports.
Several people that have fitted Eibachs to their STi's have reported a 'clash' with their dampers, making the ride at low speed very bouncy.
Whilst I am sure there are some of you that have put them on your imports and had no probs, I guess it really comes down to what dampers are on the car.
Did STi/WRX dampers change every year?
If the kit was developed to go on normal UK cars, I fail to see how any UK owners can report the same negative reaction unless their existing dampers are past their sell-by date. Mine have now done 63,000 miles though and sem fine.

I have kept a reasonably close eye on the experiences that people have had with Eibachs and have only ever seen negative points about their fitment to UK cars with standard dampers, though I realise that there are many (yourself obviously) who have not found them a problem with them on UK cars.
I have certainly never heard any reports of the springs "clashing" with dampers on STi's though!; do you mean physically (doubtful) or in a mismatch kind of way?
I'm not sure if the dampers are varied much across the STi/WRX versions(as they are with UK MYs) but I'm pretty sure they will all be uprated in comparison to UK models regardless, which in theory will make them more suitable to a stiffer spring.
Incidentally, the springs as fitted to my car were sourced from Falkland Performance and were sold to me as being specifically for the STi range (sales flannel??). They certainly are not labelled anywhere on the box or spring itself as being the "Pro-Kit" or for European models. Maybe this is something that needs to be checked out?
I personally think they suit the STi excellently and although I run Japanese option spec Bilsteins on my car, I have been in "standard STi damper" equipped cars and the result is as impressive.
I recommend them as a simple cheap solution to the "greys don't handle" myth when I first fitted Eibachs some 7 months ago. I stand by that recommendation still.

The standard car is more than a match for me and frankl;y in the 22B I am about to drown. If you can get to grips with knowing how to control the car with the weakest of standard equipment, then surely you are less likely to be caught out when the goal posts of performance are moved?
I also find it funny that sunil (famously scary driver) is fit to comment on cem (very capable driver) not upgrading his brakes. Hasn't cem got four pot brembos on his car?
