Default Tyres - Quick answer Needed

Is it OK to Put 225/45R17 tyres on standards 05 WRX rims- Current tyre is 215/45R17.

I know its in the wrong area but I need to order my tyres before Mr Plod gets me...

the 45 is a % of the width and gives the effective height of the tyre wall, so fitting wider tyres will increase the overal rolling diameter of the tyre and make your speedo wrong (although will probably correct the standard over reading )- will also raise gearing slightly reducing acceleration a bit
when increasing the tyre width you should change the profile i.e 40 etc. to retain the same rolling diameter and check it won't rub!!
talk to a tyre specialist.

The second one will work out the difference to your speedo reading, which will be -0.9mph @ 60mph. As your speedo will always read over by as much as 10%, loosing 1.4% just makes it a little more accurate. No problem fitting these tyres, just be aware that they may tramline ever so slightly more than the narrower OE ones.

what the hell are you talking about this guy is putting wider tyres on not changing the profile hight, yes they will be fine that is the fitment size for an sti and i myself have a wrx 2003 and have put 225's on insteat of 215's the only diff is going to be if it rains or snows as its better to have thiner wheels for better grip, just see the wrc cars width tyre when on gravel or snow and tarmac's are alot wider. dont listen to these ***** as they dont seam to know what there talking about, unles they just cant read

thats a bit rude of you to call other people *****,and to let you know paul is CORRECT in what he's saying. It will alter the rolling radius, albeit a small amount.

Suggest you check your facts before slating someone who is correct..!

The aspect ratio (ie 45) is a percentage of the tyres width. So 45% of 225 is greater that 45% of 215 and therefore will have a greater rolling circ./tyre wall height.

Wow, I only asked!!!!

The reason I asked was I have been on the Mitchelin web site and they say that they only do Pilot Sports in 225/45/17, however, I think this is an old table.

So what Pilot Sports (2?) can I fit on standard WRX rims (05)?? as these seem to be my tyre of choice at the moment.

Went to the tyre calcualtors earlier - 225/45/17 + 9mm dia, 225/40/17 -13mm. So as me being a bit thick speedo over reads (by quite a bit), which is best.

Plus do they do Mitch Pilot Sports 2 in either size?????

The second of the calcs I posted will tell you by how much % your speedo will be +\- from the original size inputted But as I said earlier, I wouldn't worry about it as it's marginal
