Question Finally found it....the perfect backbox..!

Had the wagon for nigh on 3 years now and although I adore herI was never satisfied with her exhaust note.

I bought her with decat centre and brand new scoobysport b/b but she wasn't loud enough. So, I bought a Ninja but it was too raspy. I then exchanged a TSL firestorm for the Ninja, it was toooooo boomy in the cabin, so, I refitted the scoobysport but it was still too quiet.

Today, I acquired an Afterburner Vortex and I think I've found the perfect b/b for me - nice low throb on tickover, throaty voice on accelaration and fantastic sounds on lift-off.

How many b/b's have you tried and what was the perfect one for you?

Also forgot to mention that somewhere amongst all these changes I also decatted and scoobyecu'd.

Probably a Naff thread and will get shot down in flames.

Couldn't give a f**k to be honest.

Si - think I'll go for another spin.

What! Subaru spent millions developing the standard backbox as part of the perfect exhaust system for the standard engine.
You would ignore the Subaru engineers' painstaking efforts?
I can hear the sobs from Japan here.

My sti 4 came with twin, 4 inch back-box's that just looked hidious and didn't sound too good either.
Swapped them for a magnex 3inch back-box which wasn't loud or throaty enough. Then bought a blitz 3 inch cat-back system with a 4 inch backbox off fleebay (not nur-spec). Sounded good, well, until the inside of the back-box broke up!
Drove up to H&S to have a 4.5inch jap style angled exit box made up to fit my 3inch mid section. Loved it straight away! Really deep and throaty.
Then added a H&S decat downpipe. Now it is quite easy to set every car alarm off as I drive past in 5th!

I changed my standard bugeye twin pipe for a Magnex 6x4 oval (plus decat centre and ecutek remap). Great back box, superb burble on tickover but lacking the growl on acceleration, although still sounds nice.

I've now got a TSL Ti-phoon on the way!!

Can't wait to get it on and hear the difference, just hope it isn't too OTT on the motorway (anyone know?).

I think the big ones are too deep. I have a magnex 3.5" round which is nice but too quiet, small bore small silencer. Nice rasp, rally style!

that's the way

similar route to you, had a magnex, then went to a firestorm and now have an afterburner

thought the firestorm was pants TBH and while i do like the sound of the afterburner, i'm sure it's getting louder and creating rattles in the cabin.

not a major issue at the mo, but i can see me putting the magnex back on at some time.

What When How Why??

There must have been a reason .... you too far away or was it silly money?

Or was it the one which needed extensive bending and welding to fit??

I can, I bought one when I bought my car .... it was new and Subaru had already fitted it

I don't go to the ice cream van, buy a 99 - but buy a FAB as well - just in case I don't like the 99 and want to change (I would consider that a gross waste of money ... wouldn't you?)
