Same as F1. Was a massive Mansell fan, for what he did, and how hard he tried. He didn't know the meaning of the word "Give up". Hill, Coulthard, and Button, have never come close IMHO.

Got to be Galli for me - his commitment in an inferior car is top class....
And he looks like he's about to have a heart attack every time they go in car with him

I'm a Solberg fan too and the reason for that is because is such a showman, I've seen him at rally gb a few times and it's something else watching him do a victory lap of the dockland stage standing out of the car Marcus Gronholm always makes me laugh when they interview him though

I like them all. You have to take your hat off to any driver that makes it to the WRC. I think Loeb is the best rally driver that there has ever been, but I'm a Petter fan as well.
What about some of the drivers from the past? How about Ari Vatenan for example?

Colin McRae the youngest World Rally Champion ever at 27, i think he's arguably the world’s best, but certainly the most famous.
In 2004 4rth season with ford he became the first driver in history to achieve 25 World Rally Wins. (safari Rally in July 02 was the 25th)
Leob - 10 wins in a season / 6 in a row. certianly speaks volumes about his skill.
I still say McRae tho, i am scottish after all.

Petter & McRae both excellent wished Colin had gone to Subaru recently when there was talk that would of been a pair of drivers.
Petter is a great driver and a really nice bloke, met both him and Mills at Rally GB top blokes the pair of them. Petter sounds like a good lad too - his mechanics shaved his hair off after one event
hat's off to all of the greats, Makkinen, Sainz maybe even Loeb he is something with that Citroen.
Chris.

see whta you mean about Galli looking like he is having a heart attack on every stage likes making the pizza, whats happened to all the presenters from ITV, John, Robbie and Angus been replaced by some bint who tells us nowt interesting?
Loeb, give him a season or so and will be the most succesfull driver ever he just doesnt make any mistakes apart from OZ 05 but he was under mass pressure from Petter on Pirrellis
I still think he will run away with the title this year, Marcus has a great car that actually works he will have the usual battle with Petter, maybe its time Subaru changed their tyre manufacturer, every rally they are struggling to keep up with the opposition
Thoughts????????

Without a doubt, Colin McRae.
If you saw how he used to attack and drive the stages in the impreza in 94/95. Was unbelievable!! His lines and driving was in a different league. I've shat myself plenty of times as he's come round a bend to scare us on stage, or seemed like he was going straight on, into us, but then whipped it around at the last moment.
Of the modern day drivers; Solberg is great, friendly to fans and has time for them and is becoming a RAC legend. Loeb is the perfect package, quite similar to the Gronholm and 206 days.
I think 2006 will be different, as plenty of new names in the top 10. But as Loeb proved, the top drivers will pass them like a hot knife through butter.

Petter Solberg because of his speed, agility and the fact he drives a Subaru.
Gigi Galli because of the fact that he is always right on the very edge of what seems possible.
In the past I always liked to see Kankkunen, especially in the Lancia, he had talent that was so stylish.

Juha Kankunenn, absolute wizzard in the 205 T16 back in the days of crazy horse power.
Then of course Henri Toivenen,
met him at M.I.R.A many years ago, he ws thrapping a Talbot Horizon around there for some reason.

Petter Solberg (www.pettersolberg.com) and also Marcus Gronholm (www.mgr.fi/) , both because they are geeat drivers that never give up, but also show their emotions.

McRae Love his flat out style
Juah Kankuunen (sp) Really nice chap and devestatingly quick
But Number 1......Henri Toivonen
Had the decency to smile when he had pull over and sit for me to get out of the way in a single track road rather than make me reverse for about 1/2 mile when he was on the way to the next stage even with the stress of possibly being late. Great loss (Hum, might need some punctuation in that, get to it later)
Going head to head with an Delta S4 coming in the other direction, that was exciting

Ari Vatenan was great in his day and Stig Blomqvist - met him when my dad was rallying Audi Quattros anyone might have heard of him Darryl Weidner - for the older rally fans? - Quattro was blue and white with CLEARLITE on the bonnet?

So many to choose from.
For class and entertainment value you can't beat an all out Colin McRae charge....
I know he's not the most popular driver and does come across a bit brash, but Gilles Panizzi is absolutely inspiring on tarmac. There aren't many who can touch him on this surface which coupled with his passion for racing make him quite a force.
For skill, strategic thinking and pure talent I used to love watching Tommi Makinen. He was one of the more calculating drivers, but could still pull incredible times out when required.
For natural ability, enthusiasm and always having that look as if he was really enjoying what he did for a living, whilst still coming across as down to earth and someone who could easily be one of your mates.... Richard.. .....
