Default Engine warning light on my 04 jdm sti this morning

While driving to work this morning my engine warning light had come on, and i had lost my speedometer reading. I pulled over stright away and the car seem to be idiling slowly - though she was driving fine.

Within a minute everything went back to normal - no check engine light - speedo back on line and the car was/is fine.

I spoke to the garage who have advised to carry on as normal as the light went out so quickly.

The temp on the car was 1 degree and i washed the car yesterday so wondered if the cold had a part to play.

Any ideas what it might have been and any differing advice to the garage?

Cheers,

Cheers,
If I understand correctly, a fault with the speedometer would illuminate the check engine light, strange that it fixed itself, dodgy connection maybe? I'd get it looked at properly, it'll be annoying if it keeps happening!

was thinking the same thing - garage also mentioned that it would trigger the light. will get it checked next time i'm up there

as for the exhaust - its a full milltek system with sports cat so it won't be tripping the sensor

I've sometimes lost my speedo and every now and then it mistakes it self for the rev counter at idle and sweeps up to around 80mph before returning back to rest and operate normally.

Different exhausts can trigger the sensor, even with the sports cat.

your car jdm mph converter is faulty, grey box 5 wires converts kph to mph. get them to check it for u, but make shewer they have soldered it in and not used scotch blocks.

Mine went on during the cold weather over Christmas - had to get the dealer to re-set it though. Mine has a sports exhaust too.
