Oil Question: mix up at dealership

Oil Question: mix up at dealership
Hi folks after a bit of help,
Left my '02 STI in with a dealership today, normally I supply 15w50 mobil 1 motorsport (have been using this exclusively from 5k Miles) as they don't usually stock fully synth oil. Same form today left them 5 ltrs of mobil 1 and found out when got the car back they had mistakenly used Magnatec.
I remember getting advice from a mechanic years ago about an issue switching back from fully synthetic to semi but can't remember the specifics.
Can anyone jog my memory as I need to ring the dealership in the morning.
Cheers
Andy

But, that was many years ago - before I learned that utter crap is spoken about a lot of things surrounding cars and engines and ESPECIALLY Oil!!
I doubt very much it will make one jot of difference, but its your call at the end of the day ............ do you feel comfortable or not? Just posting this thread suggests that you are NOT comfortable.
So, if I was you, I would take the car back and get them to put what you told them to put in ....... you will sleep easier!!

Pete it may interest you to know that Magnatec is just as synthetic as Mobil 1. However Mobil consider that using a highly refined mineral base stock, mixed with a full synthetic ester base (about 15% from memory) constitutes "fully" synthetic oil. Magnetic, uses a similar amount of ester, and mixed with a mineral base, so they are very similar. So in this case it will make next to bugger all difference!
A fully synthetic 100% ester based oil is definitely superior, more stable, more tolerant of fuel dilution, temperature effects etc. The consistency of oil pressure with time (or miles) and temperature is noticeably better with the 100% ester based oil.

I was talking about someones peace of mind rather than what the Oil actually was!
Most of these things are in the mind, like the **** Oil Change .... some people NEED to do it, just NEED to - has no practical advantage at all - just makes them feel better!

Pete, given that you never take your engine above 2500rpm (or used the turbo) it would probably run/last using whale oil..!
FWIW, main dealers don't give a rat's ****, they don't even pre-fill filter ffs..!

A friend of mine placed a camera under the bonnet then sent it to the garage for a service - it was amazing what people used to offer you on Tottenham Court road a number of years ago!
The results were most interesting!
A service apparently consisting of a wipe over of the oil filter!
So to do these things yourself is by no means a bad idea!

I pre-fill the oil filter .......but, thats just me - it's had 10 services at main dealers WITHOUT pre-filling the filter ............ and is my engine knackered??
Is it fooooooook!!!!!
So why do I do it? Because it makes me feel better when I start it!!!
Just like those ***** who soak their filters OVERNIGHT!!!!!! and who dis-connect the crank sensor!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha ..... I know!! But they cannot help themselves ....... they are **** after all!!

nice - got any pics -
As my old mechanic used to say 'The wetter the stocking the the better the cocking'...( cocking being an old wrench's term for the fit of the piston in the bore.)
