Well a dump valve is hardly subtle,

Get your pads upgraded and lowering springs (Eibach) to sort out the handling (to a degree) if you dont want an exhaust that will wake the dead i would say get a Magnex - nice burble without being too loud, a Green or STi panel filter - now whether you opt for the full de-cat route is up to you, and you will see most of your power gains with a re-map and de-cat, but then it starts costing money.

oh and one more thing! dont think you wont spend any money on it - cos you will but it will be teh best thing you will ever do

I'd keep in standard as you get a feel for the car, then your experience will help you decide on what areas need developing.

It depends on what you want from the car, i.e. raw acceleration, decent handling ability etc and also the primary use of the car. But the general process is decat, panel filter and remap

Get used to the power and handaling etc first before embarking
on emtying your bank account on performance mods

As for external styling, getting rid of the orange indicators or
detangoing as we call it can do wonders, giving the car a cleaner
look and it's not expensive to do.

Obviously the most dramatic change can be made by swapping the
wheels but it depends on how much your wanting to spend

Enjoy your new car bud

Aside from replacing the std peashooter backbox -if the previous owner hasn't already done it- and taking it to a specialist for a once over and a good service, you should do................................................ .............

Nothing. Seriously, you can't know what you want till you appreciate what you've got!

Save your money for the optimax for the minute; you're going to need it!

Enjoy!

Why spend so long looking for an un-adulterated example, if you plan to spoil it with pointless ****e like a VTA blow-off valve? You could have saved yourself a lot of money by buying one that had already been 'Kev'ed-up'! Innit?

Nice one

The first things i did where the norm really, dump valve and a full de cat, then a really good polish with maguires 3 stage paint cleaner, polish and wax which made it look stunning

De tangoed it and put some morrettes on, then got some P1 oz's for it in anthracite which i think go really well with dak blue

I am in a similar position to the OP, though my scoob is a MY98 with 90k on the clock. FSSH and enthusiast owners have ensured that it is in great condition, but spending loads of money would be pointless, if I decide at a later date I want more power then I'll trade up to a new age WRX PPP or summat. I certainly don't feel that a decat and remap would be viable or sensible.

BUT my original peashooter back box (which I have no problem with in principle) is almost rusted through, and will shortly give me the perfect excuse to change it.

I don't want a dustbin poking out the back, and I don't want to wake the recently deceased, but it might be nice to enhance the burble a bit.

I assume I'm not going to be noticing anything different in terms of performance though, simply audio visual tweaks?

What are my options?

Thanks

RB

what about a crystal grey/ silver/ blue respray?

along with getting rid of the gold wheels (either new/second hand wheels or have them refurbed in anthracite)

Whereabouts in S.Wales are you? Anywhere near Pembrokeshire?

Good call on the car purchase. As advised, don't do anything just yet and try not to get caught up in another argument over dump valves. Service and fuel is all you need worry about.

Maybe see if the MAF has been replaced and if Lambda has been replaced. First things I did with mine - just a precaution. Really good service, maybe go dealership for a minor and see if they find anything untowards. A dealer will always find some problem and then at least you can go cheaper if you wish to sort out any probs.

If you want something that'll bring out the burble, but not be: a) too loud; b) look too wide-boy then I'd suggest either the Magnex oval pipe, or the original scooby design from H&S (there is a group buy on at the moment). I have the latter and it is excellent.

I'd look for a nice Hayward & Scott backbox; it'll last for the life of the car and you wont be disappointed.

Thanks guys, I guess H&S and Hayward and Scott are the same thing? 2 votes for that, I'll look it up.

New_Scooby_04, when you say excellent, in what way? If you don't mind me asking.

One and the same. Check out the Group buy section for a deal on the original design backbox. I rate it highly because:

1) It brings out the burble very nicely.
2) It also makes a fantastic howl when you boot it.
3) It's not harsh, like some backboxes.
4) It's not annoying when you're at a constant throttle.
5) It's not loud enough to wake the dead and have everyone thinking you're a plonker!
6) It looks nice, but at 3 1/2 inches diameter with a rolled tip, it's discreet too.
7) Build quality is excellent.

That help?

Id suggest but is my own personal taste:

A nice subtle backbox like the Prodrive or Magnex so you can hear the nice Scooby sound and maybe a decat midsection.

Crystal sidelights make the front end look nice along with your crystal front headlights that you already have, also crystal bumper lights and crystal side repeaters to complete the de-tango look.

Colour coded sideskirts and handles if not already have it done.

New set of 17" alloys and a good set of tyres.

Thanks Ns04, it really does. 3 1/2" isn't too bad, 4 1/2" IMO is just too big (and only my opinion), and having kept everything else standard just goes against the grain.

I put a magnex system from front cat back with rear decat on my Scoob not long after having buying it. It's a very nice system which really brings out the lovely scooby burble sound. The oval back back really looks the parts and suits the car to. My cars a MY00 turbo 2000 in dark blue metallic with standard silver wheels.
