my02 sti PPP. Whats a good sensible start to modding for more power. Nothing outrageous.....yet. Just a few more horses with reliability?

Race cat
Fuel pump
ECU remap
Exhaust

Ie PPP replication, but should be cheaper, probably better as the remap would better suit the individual car and probably give good returns.

Any comments.

I too may go this way when the car runs out of warrenty (if I keep it) and I could not justify PPP on an unwarrentied car.

He's already got PPP

How about some suspension or brake upgrades first?

Thing is for any decent power hike you'll effectively end up throwing away the PPP. Full de-cat or full exhaust system with sports cat is the obvious starting point but then it's probably wise to have it re-mapped for safety. Before starting on the modification route it's worth considering some instrumentation so you can keep an eye on things and stop your engine blowing up. Boost, oil pressure and oil temp guages are what most people go for along with the dreaded KnockLink and possibly an Air/Fuel meter would also be useful.

So what your saying is ditch the PPP bits. Exhaust and filter and replace them? Not much point in them being fitted then hey!

The three things slowing down a 265bhp car are: i) the driver ii) the chassis and iii) the brakes; more horsepower is seldom needed. The solutions are: i) get better because you arent nearly as good as you think you are ii) change geometry; ARB and links and possibly bushes and iii) fit Goodridge braided hoses and 335mmm rotors with an improved friction material.

Of course fitting a dump valve, a boost gauge and an 'induction kit' might really be the way to go.....

Lightened crank pulley!! it will not give you much more ps but it will change the characteristics of the engine and make it feel sooooo much different that you will think you have lots more so that might keep you happy for a while.
