Question my06 JDM STI verse Spec C whats the difference

I've bought a Spec C having tested just about every model i could afford. But what are the differences between spec C and STI, other than weight, turbo and less trim. Does anyone know?

Hi,

Are you talking about a MY06 JDM STi and MY06 SPEC C?

Regards,

For starters.....

The MY06 Spec C is much lighter (upto 120kg) than the standard STI with lightweight glass, roof, boot lid etc.

It also has:
12 Litre Intercooler water spray bottle behind the rear seats for better weight distribution with automatic mode as well as the Manual mode like the UK.

Roof vent

The Spec C is fitted with a different radiator, water pump and additional engine & transmission oil coolers for improved cooling under track conditions.

A Roller bearing version of the Twin Scroll turbo is fitted to the Spec C.

The Spec C also gets a rear strut brace as standard.

Regards,
Shaun.

lots of usful (and not so useful) stuff missing though

passenger sun visor
map lights
rear wiper
speakers in rear doors
only a lap belt for the middle of the rear seat
no carpet in the boot
wrx rather than sti carpet on the floor
nice all black STI chairs

i don't believe there's anymore power although it seems lower geared

comments please!

MY06 does not have any Spec C badging - Iain can provide stickers if you want them.

No HIDs (so I have heard although my lamps are pretty intense!!)

No boot lining at all

No wheel arch liners

Manual 'aerial' - not sure what JDM Sti has though as my last one had a nice leccy one

your right no HID's there 'projector lamps, no height adjusters to the lamps either, no dead locking and the needles to the gauges don't swing about on ignition like the STI, Ive got arch liners to the front wheels though

I believe the glass is lighter not thinner...

...and if you check Iain's site about the ports - although this could be diffferent on MY06 JDM cars - however the Spec Cs make very good power on their UK fuel maps.

i must admit i would be suprised if it was the front screen purely from a rock coming throught the screen basis. I assumed it would be the side glass and rear screen?

Not really, not since MY05 when the regular STI gained the revised chassis and suspension geometry that was originally introduced on the Spec C. Look closely at the front wheels of an '05 STI (either UK or JDM) and you'll see that they're not central in the wheelarch - they're about 2cm forward thanks to the longer wheelbase. On MY04 and earlier models the wheels sit centrally.

IMHO it's not been publicised widely enough that the STI is now much more similar to the Spec C than it used to be. The Spec C remains lighter, and has a few more goodies under the bonnet designed to improve durability under track conditions, but it's hard to say that one version is definitively 'better' than the other.

For what it's worth, I chose the JDM STI over the Spec C for its greater refinement and additional equipment. Your mileage may vary.

Andy
I tested JDM STI, Spec C and uk STI
I didn't like the 2.5l power delivery, enjoyed the JDM STI but in the end went with the spec c as it's my weekend car only (bloody racket inside without the sound proofing of the STI though!)
