EVO 4 Vs MY95 WRX. WHATS BEST???
I know the Evo is 280bhp and the scoob is 260 and the Evos are more expensive by a couple of grand but the Evos are very nice and not as common.I am scooby mad but I really like the evo and if there was a good one going cheap enough I would definately fancy one.Has any one owned one or driven one???Is servicing expensive and are they a lot less economical. All advice and opinions very welcome cheers

For a fair comparison you'd want to look at a v3 sti onwards.

The CN9A Evolution will be a far superior (although a good one will be much dearer too) car. Servicing will be much more expensive with shorter intervals and regular rear diff fluid changes.

I currently own an EVO 2 and a MY96 STI.
There is very little in it! Scoob quicker in a straight line, but brakes and handling go to the EVO.
EVO 4 will best a MY95 WRX easily IMO.

MY95 WRX!!! Only 'cause I have one!!!
Seriously though, the Evo 3 would be a better match, then it really is down to preference. The Evo is still slightly quicker (and some would say better handling), but the Scooby has better longevity, fuel consumption, looks (!) and interior.
There isn't that much in it, but the later Evos are another story.
edit. Sorry Mr Power, I was still thinking when you posted!!!

I cant see another car having brakes that are worse than a early Evo, sure you didnt miss type there (Evo 3 owner)

I used to have an evo4 rs. i now have a uk turbo. I have to say the scoob is a little bit better on fule and pluss you would need to run the evo on optimax pluss a booster. servising will be more expencive for the evo as well. off the line the evo will be quicker but round the bends they are about the same. found the back end of the evo tends to go a bit light under hard braking.

Depends on the actual cars really - when I was looking to buy my Impreza had a look at a few Evo's as a lot of the dealers had both - for old imports like these I dont think I saw one that was standard - and a lot had home done dodgy looking DIY mods on them.
I'm sure a properly modded WRX would be better than a lashed up, tired EVO, and vice versa.
Both cars are uneconomical and expensive to run properly, but you dont buy either if you're looking for a sensible cheap car !
I'd say, test drive the actual cars you are interested in and make up your own mind.

If you can do your own basic servicing then go for the evo - you'll save a load of money and gain a satisfaction and confidence in your car that is otherwise simply unobtainable....at that age and cost this should really be something you can enjoy and in the meantime gain new skills and have some great fun...as you learn more about your car you will gain the confidence to do complex mechanical tasks you thought you were perhaps never capable...buy a the best workshop/service manual you can find - start with the oil chnage and level checks and go from there...

Wifes got a evo 4 , good car , I used to have a 95 series McRae, both compleatly standard, I would choose the evo as a standard car, as it is so easy to drive, as said the evo is more expensive to service every 4500 ish miles, including dif oil, but not dificult to do yourself,
have a good one
