Alloy Wishbones
Are alloy wishbones standard on a 94 wrx (import)? noticed the other day that i have them and thought it stange and then saw steel ones of flea bay when looking for something else.
mine are stamped subaru rather than an aftermarket product.

mmm. one thing i've never looked into is if my classic is an early sti or not. it had sti1 and 2 wheels on it when i got it and the pink grill badge. now with the alloy wish bones it's got me wondering. i've always taken it as being a wrx as the only other badge on it was the wrx sticker on the boot.
is there anyway i can find out for sure?

There will be an STI build plate under the bonnet and a number; either x of 100 or x of 200 (there were two production runs). Whats the redline on the tachometer?

not noticed a build plate. I think that they're normally on the offside strut? I guess any japanese owners have paid extra for the wishbones and wheels.
not sure what the redline is. i've never really taken any notice as i don't really take it over about 5500 rpm. i find that there is the best amount of torque at that engine speed for the next gear if i'm feeling heavy footed. does that makes sense? i'll have a look at the red line when i get home though. what should it be for the sti and is there anything else that will stand out as "extras"?
It's always seemed quicker than other classic import wrx. not that i race on public roads as that is illegal and dangerous.

I thought all JDM WRXs had alloy wishbones
My 93 WRX and friends 93 WRX certainly did.
By the way, if you're changing up at 5,500 rpm, you're missing out on all the fun! The big turbo doesn't wake up until 4k rpm (slightly less if de-cat), and pulls strong to the red line - sounds great too

Reduces the "unsprung weight" this being anything that is fixed to the wheel/hub assy and moves with the wheel as is rebounds or to put another way everything mounted below the damper.
In motorsport engineers try and keep this to a minimum hence the use of lightweight components.

Were it not for the fact that they AREN'T actually any lighter
Somewhat bizarre but they weigh pretty much the same. Only benefit I can see is that there is no flex in cast ally...

Not sure if the difference would be noticeable tbh... At most a couple of mm surely? Maybe feel slightly tighter if you are Ayrton reincarnate?

Ayrton Senna was my idol when i was a kid. i like to think i can drive but at the end of the day i guess i'd be pants on a circuit. still, should be doing my racing licence in march
