Default Main Dealer service prices in North East.

My 04 STI is coming up for it's 2 year service, so I thought I would phone a few local dealers.

Jennings (Middlesbrough) - £155.14
Chapmans (Pickering) - £200
S.G. Petch (Richmond) - £217.50
All prices inc VAT.

I did not bother phoning GMD at Durham as they are crap!

I always thought main dealers charged the same for servicing, but obviously not.

Does anyone know:
1) Why Jennings are so much cheaper?
2) Am I likely to get it any cheaper than this?
3) Any reason why I should not use Jennings?

Thanks.

starting to hear quite a few complaints about this dealer.
we get the wr1 serviced there because the other half works in durham and its handy. asked them to try and sort a knocking noise coming from the back of the car(shock knock?) and they told me there isn't any problem with the car. going to take it somewhere else when next service is due (2000 miles) and get a second opinion.

i think there is a main dealer in hexham if that is near you. you could get a quote from them

Anything in particular with GMD as i get my car serviced there for warranty reasons. I live much closer to Jennings and would rather use them if i get a proper job done.

The Middlesbrough outfit is cheaper because the Labour pay rates will be cheaper.

Because its a crap hole thats why!!

And I love the place .... but it's true that those in Pickering, say, have higher expenses - so need more money/pay

This is the 2nd Scoob I have bought from GMD, but only because they offered me an excellent deal when I was trading up to the STI.

From my experience, their service department is set up for Daewoo & Fiat, which is where the volume of their sales are.
I have found them very unhelpful with very limited knowledge of Subarus.
I was looking for STI fog light covers when I had the WRX and the parts manager did not know what I was talking about. He said he could only supply parts if I had the part number - which kinda defeats the object of me going to them in the first place!
There was also a thread on herer recently regards somebody having a real problem with GMD carrying out a warranty engine rebuild.

Frankly, for parts & servicing I would not touch them with a bargepole!

I was just going to post new thread when I saw this. My51 Sport special is due its 60k service soon. Live in Whitley Bay - phoned CD Bramell & Denis Common a while back - can't remember figures but Denis Common was cheaper if I recall. Patterson Ford Shiremoor (near where I work) advised me to go elsewhere as Scoobies were "too difficult".

Anyone recommend the best place and how much to expect to pay?

Cheers
Howie

S.G. petch (Richmond0 £217............... Bugger. That's the dealer I use now, Service due in March. Bought the car from GMD of Durham, but after the 1000mile service they did on my new car, I'll never go back.
Took 3 days, cos they had to send the ECU to prodrive for the PPP. While it was there, I wanted them to remove the excess wax off the Alloys that they missed pre-delivery. Wanted them to check/replace wiper blades cos they didn't clear the water away (now have Bosche one on).
Neither things were done, and one of the spanner monkeys decided to cover my brand new STi drivers mat in oil and muck. The paper matt cover neary fooled me............. until I removed it, at the dealers thank god.
They gave me a loan car with not enough petrol in to get to the nearest petrol station. I phoned them up 2mins before they closed. It took another 20min for one of the numpties to turn up. dealer was 2 mins away !!!

Oh yes, they didn't even bother to stand my log book either.

Like said before, the only reason I bought from GMD in the first place was they gave the best trade-in deal.

I have used SG Petch in Richmond for over 8 years now and have no complaints. Give them a call back with the other quotes and see if they'll get somewhere near, they won't want to lose a potential customer.
The drive over to Richmond is well worth it too.
