Smile Due to limited supply of Optimax, purchased 'NOS Octane Boost'

After my post yesterday and the response I received, I popped in to Halfords and the best they had was the NOS brand (street use) Octane Boost up to 3 points...

I hope this is okay...

I miss my Optimax ( Been using nothing but for the past 5 years...

This is the reply I received after e-mailing Shell this morning:

Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding Optimax supplies.
Following the recent incident at the Hemel Hempstead Oil Terminal, Shell is in the process of reorganising the current distribution of fuels for sites in the South of England.
To ensure the mainline grades of unleaded and diesel are kept in stock, the resource used for Optimax deliveries has been unitised to support these deliveries. Our distribution contractors are working to get extra resource to aid with mainline deliveries and allow Optimax to be dispatched to sites again. We anticipate that this will take several weeks to get all deliveries back to normal.
Shell appreciates your reliance on Optimax, and would like to thank you for your patience during this difficult period. Please be assured that we are doing everything to get all fuels to service stations.

Yours sincerely,

Ive used that NOS octane thing from Halfords, and my car drove like a bag of ****, It felt like I had filled the car up full of 95 ron unleaded, I couldnt feel any performance from the car at all.

It was the Halfords Superstore, they didn't really have anything else there that would increase the Octane levels... they did have this other stuff (not branded as such) but the assistant said that was no good when I told him what had happended and what I was looking for...

I just put some in this afternoon so I should find out sooner or later if the car drives any different... it didn't have its 'poke' when I put this normal 95 RON fuel in yesterday... it drives... but it just doesn't seem right...

I can recommend tesco 99', if anyone has a depo near them. Knock link seems a bit quieter with this + OB opposed to Optimax+OB

thats a bit pointless unfortunately.................there are 10 octane points to 1 RON, so what you have bought increases the fuel by only 0.3RON!!!!

be better off with Millers octane+ (20 points / 2 full RON) or NF Race................................

We don't have Tesco 99, and we've had no Optimax for close to 2 weeks. I've been putting in Tesco SUL (which I assume to be re-badged ESSO SUL) and Millers booster.

Car feels quite happy on it.

I tried to get optimax from 2 local shell stations today, Grantham they are not expecting to get a delivery until well into the new year and the station on the A52 at Bingham havn't had a delivery of optimax for 3 weeks and don't know when they will.
In the end i got some Nitrox octane booster from a mate who uses it in his cossy rally car, it adds 20 points car and the car seems ok with that and normal Shell 95 ron

When I can't get Optimax, I usually go for Sainsburies Super (97). Car seems happiest with this alternate. BP Ultimate sux and is WAY more expensive

I don't think you can rely on any lists of places unless these come straight from Shell. I found that some garages round our way had Optimax (Epsom/Ashstead), but garages round my work didn't (Guildford) at the beginning of last week. Then towards the end of last it was the other way round.
