Question

Well, I finally got round to taking my driving licence into the local Nissan dealer so I've got a test drive booked in an R reg Skyline on thursday.

To be honest, I don't really intend buying it - but then, I didn't plan on buying the RB5 and had stumped up an hour after the test drive I guess if I really love it then I may buy it but its not the one with the onboard telemetry data (now _that is_ tempting!) and they're after 29 grand so its a lot of cash!

I don't want to start another stupid flame war about which car is best (I'll decide for myself on Thursday!), I'm just interested in what to look out for in terms of differences between the way the two drive as I'll take the skyline out and then probably take the rb5 back over the same route.

I'm assuming the skyline will be a bit quicker, but it seems a much bigger car and i'm not too sure how this will affect the handling.

So, any tips or suggestions?!

Wink

You prodrived rb5 must be around 240 bhp and if the skyline is standard ie 276 bhp then they wont be a great deal of difference. The scooby is 300+ kg lighter . Power to weight according to EVO RB5 prodrive 174 bhp/ton and skyline gtr v-spec 164bhp/ton. Of course this relies on the skyline being standard which I doubt very much.

cheers

Kryten,

You will probably enjoy the Skyline. But it is a fair bit bigger.

Puff - When does that become +Strutt Brace!

Kryten, you will love the way the Skyline drives - far better than a Scoob (believe me i p/ex'd my STI-V TypeR for a 96GTR). You need to drive a few or drive one for a while as the change in style takes a while to get used to. While the Scoob is a frantic drive (well mine was), the Skyline is so much smoother...
Whatever you decide - don't pay 29k for an R plate!!! Mine was a 96N, low milage and excellent condition which i paid 26k for in Jan this year. I've just sold it for 16.5k and that was the best offer i'd had in 3 months of trying to sell it!
Hope that helps. You can mail me off line if you'd like any more info.

RB5 would run rings around a skyline on 'real' roads. But skyline can be tuned to bollox.

And after its had its bollox tuned it will run rings around anything .
450bhp Supra on a country road anyone.
Only caught the young scallywag on the bends under braking. And he's getting them sorted.
But I did have a test drive in a Jap'n'Save/Lifestyle Skyline which went round a roundabout at 90mph. Most excellent!
I have been quoted 15k upwards to get an R34 to keep ahead of the scooby.

Spence, don't be such a mincer!
Its only because I was trying to dodge all the stones being thrown up by those garden rollers he has the audacity to call tyres!
Thought I was going for the final run at the Death Star.
Anyway, back on track ... as has been mentioned R33 prices have really dropped.
The Skyline is fast but not as manic as the scoob when in standard form [the best way to buy] so feels a lot more comfortable at speed. Try to find out as much as you can regarding modification costs and make a choice from there. If you are fickle, and likely to change the car in 12-18mths is it worth it?
