Default New guy wanting advice

HI guys,

i'm new to the forum and to subaru's. I am looking to buy one in the near future and would like some advice. I've had all german cars in the past, AMG C36, BMW 540i, BMW M3 and my present motor is a 1997 1.8 turbo passat with an upgraded K03/4 hybrid turbo and few other mods. Reason for choosing a scooby is I would like my next car to have plenty of tuning potential (something which the passat lacks due to it's longitudal engine setup) also car was designed to be family car and not performer so tooo much needs to be changed on the car, more importantly coming from rear whee drive the fwd passat gives me shed loads of torque steer and just don't feel right, dunno if all fwd's r like this or just this passat.

Right, that's the intro out of the way. Wot i would like to know is wot to look for look for when buying a scooby, I want the classic shape but it's gotta b the hatchback, sportwagon i think it's called (kids an all, plus it looks really nice.) Any known weaknesses or areas i should b aware of and how do i check if turbo's been looked after and they don't all have really loud exhaust to they? I don't want it to be louder than it has to. I don't wanna end up buying a boy racers scooby

Many thanks

Kash

Moving over to a scooby (especially a classic) from the sort of cars you have had, you may miss your creature comforts. I certainly did for a little while (I have a Sti 5 Type R) as the interior build quality is not great and a bit plastic.

On another note the interior on the new age cars has improved a lot, they are actually rather nice.

Saying this, I forget all about the interior when I give my car a bit of stick! SO MucH FUN!!!

And I would not swap it for anything! (well i probably would for an SL65

sirus thanks for the link mate and luke u have a point but i mainly drive short distances so probably won't be bothered bout the interior, as long as AC is there and in wagon form i will have space for when kids and mrs get in. i reckon i'm addicted to turbo cars now after feeling the 15 psi of boost that i get from the little k04 turbo in my passat. Is the feedback good from the steering, so far the only involving car i've driven has been the M3, merc was rubbish, 540i wasn't too hot either and passat is, well a passat !!!
thanks again guys
