I had 18" on my type ra for a few months.
the ride was awful.
the 17" were a happy medium in my opinion
it felt like it was on its tip toes all the time, is the only way I can describe it.
get some more advice before taking the plunge also try and drive a scoob with the 18s on.

My mates got 18" BK299s on his they seem fine to me, look awesome too. Thanks for the advise though.

totally agree i had 17s on mine opted to change to 18s now the car looks better handles like a sack of **** and worry everytime you try to park next to a kerb with35 profile tyre's. i wish i still had my gold rays
