Default Donnington 98db limit with Afterburner Vortex

As above - considering a go at Donnington on one of their track days this weekend. Car (MY00 UK Turbo) has got a full Afterburner Vortex Exhaust System and the woman on the phone tells me there is a 98db limit.

Does anyone know if I will be alright with this setup or not?

Thanks

Dan

To noisy I recon. The only way to check is to go there and get the car tested.

Bloody hell

I work just over the hill from Donington Park and it sounds like they have cars over that limit (98bd) most days. Or is it me and my old age?

But they do run unsilenced days mate

Hi there,
I've got the Vortex centre and back box with a Prodrive Cat on my04 STI. I was curious about the noise level 'cos Castle Coombe has a 100db limit. So I got it tested at a local exhaust shop. The result was 96db. As you know the test is very specific and if not done properly doesn't mean much. The monitor was in approx the right place (45 deg 1m away and 50+ cm off the floor) and the engine held at 4600rpm. However, there has to be at least 3m clearence on all sides of the car which we didn't quite achieve due to location. If we had I would envisage the recorded level being lower. Either way your vortex should be good for the track. Have fun.

Vortex de-cat will fail IMO.

Best to go on a noisy day.

If you do try it, make sure you dip the clutch while they're taking the readinbg as it can make a substantial difference.

I doubt you'll get though, a straight through scoobysport H&S on my MY03 is in the region of 94, the scoobysport, with headers, on my STi4 clocked 98 at Oulton last week, and I reckon yours could be a bit louder than that.

Isn't it 98 drive by at Donnington? Big difference between static and drive by.

Not sure if it's any help, but my cMY00 with TSL decat downpipe, decat centre section and 3.5" backbox got through on the drive by. Maximum I got (and I was trying to make it as noisy as possible) was 92db on the pit straight.

It is on driveby yes (over the finish line in fact). boss from work used to run a Westfield round there and reckons it 'should' be ok as long as I change up and back off a bit on the end straight. Not as much fun but worth a go I guess

Maddog where you based just out of interest? WAs thinking of going this Sunday as my front tires are about ready for replacing and I figure I may as well finish them off first

Called Scoobyworld yesterday to see if they could tell me what sort of noise the car would make.

They reckon about 103db......

On the positive side they do have some bungs which they don't advertise because they didn't have many made up. Went over there today and picked one up and stuck it in the exhaust.

It's loads quieter now (the Girlfriend loves it ) but will be coming out the minute the track day is over!!!!

They reckon it should get me through. Will post again if I have any problems anyway in case anyone else is interested in trying such a day with a similar setup.

Thumbs up

Went along today and with the bung everything was cool. Not a black flag in sight

Had a top day and would recommend it to anyone.
