i have a impreza turbo 2000 treg....help needed, iv had a version 8 block rebuilt and put in with my 99 model uk turbo heads on it and when i fitted the engine and started it theres a tapping noise which even stays when u rev the car but goes bit quieter wen it worms up. i have been told by a few ppl that it could be a follower and that the follower might not be filling up with oil, the noise goes now and agen .will it go?

 

My car has always sounded like that. May be characteristic of the engine (02 STi mine).

Never caused any problems.

Sounds like a sticky follower,were they drained of oil for any time?
Mine has a slightly noisy one for the 1st 30 seconds after start up.

 

hi its jus had the engine rebuild and a few ppl have said it will go when its run in but id dnt seem to b getin better

 

speak to the peeps who have rebuilt it for you,unless you did all the work as in your thread you quite say who did which bit,

 

Where the heads overhauled/shimmed when the rebuild was done?


One thing to bare in mind is that the oil used for running in is thinner than
that you would normally use.

I would run it in, have the oil change and then if it's still their, get in touch
with the rebuilders.

That said iv'e just had a rebuild done by API (Quality!!) and have had no such
problems!
