Default so what's the score with a Motorpoint STI? £18995 brand new

sorry if the question has been asked before, but 19k for a delivery mileage brand new scoobie sti what's the catch?

i assume it's a european car, but does that really matter? not to clued up on the euro imports but from what i gather the warrenties are honoured over here and servicing is no problem?

anyone got any insite into euro imports and/or the company in question as i've got to say, i'm bloody tempted

that is of course until it goes wrong...
I personaly wouldn't bother going to a Subaru dealer and paying the mad prices, use a specialst... Also you may as well as you wont have a UK warranty...

yeah but i thought being within the EU that the warrenties were honoured?

good point about the spec though, would be a git if it didn't come with the right goodies!!

Same here mate, bought on 05 WRX from Alliance last Oct, cracking deal if you ask me although IIRC Moterpoint will have preregistred it so effectively you'll be 2nd owner on V5. Alliance cars were unregistred.

Other than this it sounds a fantastic deal although it'd still be worth phoning around a few main dealers to see what they're offering (taking into account PPP is still free..!), you might be supprised..!

Either way as DD would say 'cheap as chips..!'

no 3 free servicing deal/ free ppp gotta be worth a couple of grand
second owner
have to lie to subaru uk and tell em it was a personal import (or you get no warranty) <- this has only just started happening (see that thread above about it)

but i still saved a fair wedge of cash. (even more when i sue their @55e5)

but at £19000 for an STi you are saving so much it has to still be worth it

(especially if you were planning to mod it and lose your warranty anyway)

I went along to there burnley showroom a few weeks ago. I was after the Extreme version (DCCD etc...) for £19995. They had non in the showroom as they are selling before they turn up, they had one crystal grey due in so I got a part-ex quote on my low mileage, FSSH, MY99 UK turbo in mint condition. Lets just say that it would of been hard to justify the amount of cash I would of had to of paid with my car and to be honest I think by the time the security was added and the fact Subaru were offering free PPP I would not have been saving much if anything at the end of the day. They would not budge on the part-ex price cos they know that they will sell STI's all day at that price! If I had no part-ex I would go for it but I have decided to wait for the new year now and see what the MY06 does to the blobeye prices

I looked at the motorpoint option when i was looking for a new 04 wrx, they offered me 3 grand less than the main dealer for my old scoob, and it at the time the dealers were offering 3 years free servicing on new models.Motorpoint dont budge on the price they offer you,so it was the dealer for me.Although if i didnt have a trade in then things might have been different.

So, what's being said is that if you buy from an importer that Subaru UK/IM won't honour the warranty as they aren't an official dealer. What happens when you buy a used, nearly new UK supplied car from any other used car dealer Someone else was originally the owner having bought the car from an official UK (EU) dealer, but it would then be subsequently being sold on from an unofficial one. It's exactly the same scenario if a company buys one from an offical EU dealer and then sells it on to you second hand, after all UK dealers are EU dealers too. The warranty rests with the car, not the owner, and so it does not matter who the first owner was, where within the EU the car originally came from or where it ends up, the warranty is intact and should be upheld by the approved Subaru warranty holders in whichever country the owner resides. I would like to see someone challenge IM with this in court, as I feel they would lose.

I bought an Impreza WRX wagon from Motorpoint for £16,240 which included a sigma 30 alarm. The car is nothing short of fantastic!!!

I only did this after:-
1. contacting my local dealer who wasn't in the mood much for talking discounts but would offer free servicing for the first 30,000 miles ( Whoopee) Cost £21,150.

2. Looking on the Internet, using drive the deal. Best I could do was £19,700 without PPP.

3. Local specialist did a good deal but wanted £19,000. These too were parallell imports but came with full Subaru UK warranty, although they weren't authorised Subaru agents. I don't know how this latest bollox affects them as you can't have one rule for one and another rule for the rest. They were however extremely helpful and said that they would be more than pleased to look after my car if I decided to go the Motorpoint route.

4. The Car Supermarket route. Where at first glance I was getting the exact same car, from the exact same production line with an almost similar warranty for between £ 2,750 to £5,000 cheaper.

Bit of a no brainer I thought. 'Till Subaru UK started doing their smoke and mirrors act!!

Still as somebody else already said you pays your money and takes your choice. So far i'm £2,750 ahead of the game (not allowing for locking wheel nuts and the 1,000 mile service). And Subarus don't break down. Do they??

So my local specialist rather than my local dealer will be getting my servicing/repair business and when the time is right I shall be taking my business to a different manufacturer for my next car purchase, rather than deal with these chancers ever again.

Default Motorpoint

Problem seems to be that UK dealers honour warranty of cars they have been supplied by Subaru UK.

Any other vehicle is covered by a Pan European warranty, which is nothing to so with Subaru UK.

Dealer gets angry customer, but if they perform the repair, they are out of pocket as they only receive payments from Subaru UK.

If you buy from Motorpoint, you pays your money and takes your choice. Dealers & specialists will service. Recovering costs under warranty is your problem.

Thumbs down Import

I bought an import (From Cyprus) the supplier was Virgin cars , the car itself is first class no complaints but anyone who is contemplating buying a vehicle from Cyprus I would suggest they think carefully because i cannot fit a PPP to my car without invalidating my warranty . I had to pay £120 for a 1000 mile service from a local subaru main dealer . The Cat 1 alarm I paid for was about £300 . The advert which Virgin cars(Sheffield) gave out was not accurate as I later found out. I'm still waiting for my service book which apparently is the norm for imports. So if you are prepared to put up with the hassle then it's worth the cash difference . I paid £16000 for a 55 plate WRX saloon (1st Sept).
By the way I am the second owner on the V5 logbook.
Virgin cars also do a discount system whoever buys cars from them will enjoy discounts getting it that is the difficult bit . As a subaru owner the discounts are not there I was told by the service plus representative , they are not a popular car such as a mondeo etc .
After all what I have said I still would probably bought the car as an import not from Virgin cars though .

Virgin get their cars from Alliance (or at least used to), hence the second owner (ie pre reg.). This is the reason I bought my 05 from Alliance last Oct. All this boils down to IM getting pissd off about being undercut and are IMHO
trying to scare people off buying the 06 from the EU..!

Default STi Type UK - the one to have.

Forget imports & all their potential worries & differences - why not find a 2005 STi type UK for sale privately with 1k miles on the clock in show condition & pay £19k for it, no worries!

Oh by the way mine fits that description & is available, go on... fancy it?

You wont be dissappointed, I guarantee!
