Apexi power fc
ok simple for some i'm gonna be having a apexi power fc soon.
my question is the hand held controller what benifits do you get from this.
my problem is everyone says you can adjust everything from inside your car.
adjust what exactly why have someone map it if then your left with a controller to **** it all up with.thats if you have a go let alone some tw@t sat next to you that has a fiddle whilst your paying for petrol.
Or does it show figures and adjust the boost
would be grate for your input people who already have one
cheers

Thats probably a question better directed towards an experienced mapper; Andy Forrest or Paul/Zen will be able to tell you exactly what the craic is. I havent met anyone with a Commander who regrets paying the extra £80 odd; Ive spoken to a couple of people who wish theyd included it though...

Its a good tool. As mentioned earlier there are about 8 or more parameters you can monitor at one time, remembers max readings etc. It even has a graph function so you can check boost vs rpm, with a pause button so you don't have to look at it real time.
You can change between 4 different boost settings, or set rev limit to 3000rpm valet mode or 500rpm not getting far if stolen mode.
Also has a sensor monitor section so you can check all sensors if something feels amiss.
Its a good tool, and noone can play with it if the key is out of the ignition

Its good if you ever take it anywhere for work and you dont trust the people or think they might give your car some stick once your gone because you can make that imposible i.e lower the rev limit to 3000rpm or lower the boost so its barely there

With the commander you can:
Monitor (max of 8 at any time) -
Injector Duty Cycle
Ignition Timing
RPM
Speed
Boost
Knock
Water Temperature
Intake Air Temp
Battery Voltage
You can view them as a rolling graph and record 30 seconds of it. You can also display peak values (useful sometimes). You can also view the 20x20 grid of the load and rpm cells to determine what area of the map you are in. This has a ghost function which isn't that easy to view (IMO).
You can alter
Ignition timing
Fuelling
Injector size percentages and delays
Boost
Accelleration enrichment
Water temperature correction (cold starts)
Idle
Rev Limit
Fuel cut settings
IMO the commander is a handy little gadget. The only problem for some is not being able to unplug it when not in use - it plugs directly into the ECU. It can be useful for identifying mishaps or suspected knock etc as the peak hold will retain the highest value for you.
As for your mates touching it when you get petrol - you can't do a thing when the ignition is switched off.

I've seen cars that are mapped by Andy (and others) that aren't RR shootout winners, but they leave cars that are, standing.

I have my commander custom mounted in a Din slot in my dash pod. It has the next button routed through a hdden switch to stop pillocks from messing with it. I dont recommend desoldering the screen though, its a pain in the ***.
I use it for changing boost settings, global retard of the ignition for lower octane fuel and monitoring stuff.
