Default O6 IMPREZA TEST IN AUTOCAR TODAY ?

Apparantly Autocar are testing a 2.5 Impreza this week, Unfortunatly I’m working away in Turkey this month so any feedback would be appreciated, a scanned copy would be even better !

there's a test on the sti and a road test btween the wrx and astra vxr.

in both the comments are basically that the scoob is now feeling dated and that other cars have moved on although it's still a great driver's car.

they chose the scoob over the vxr

Thanks for that. As for the test on the STI. is it a full test and how does it compare with the 05 model ie 0-60, 30-70, 0-100 50-70 etc etc

Thanks

I haven't read the test, but have driven them. It's hard to believe that they could make a positive difference. They have and I think they are on a winner with this new model for those who want that little bit extra.

All UK dealers should now be aware of what they are going to get. The embargo date has passed and all information should be made available.

UK Models

- 2.0R (non-turbo) = 160ps engine
- 2.5 WRX (Turbo) = 230 ps
- 2.5 STi (Turbo) = 280ps (and 284 lbs-ft.)
(multiply by 0.9863201 to get bhp - I think)

0-60mph (Subaru figures)

WRX 4-door = 5.4
WRX 5-door = 5.6
STi 4-door = 5.0
2.0R manual (both 5 and 4 door) = 8.5
2.0R auto (both 5 and 4 door) = 11.3

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
You heard it here first! - 'Full' report on all models in Scooby Magazine soon. Also read about it in NUTS

Not sure where they get the 'no burble' bit from, the WRX and STi HAVE NOT got equal length headers and sound just the same as previous models.

PPP on the way but don't expect 23% more power to go with 23% more capacity.....

A damn good move to lessen the burble sound! It will reduce the number of future claims against Subaru for hearing disorders (only kidding).

Might just have been the silent OEM exhausts that confused autocar.

I bet the PPP on the WRX will take the power to just below the level of a standard STi

The exhaust note is very tame and sound-deadening in the cabin seems to have been improved slightly, making for a very pleasant drive.

Who cares what the PPP figures are going to be - as long as you can get that funky spoiler and gear ****.

The drivability of the WRX has been improved as standard. For Prodrive to make considerable (and noticeable) gains without pushing the car beyond what is deemed reasonable and while still conforming to emissions regulations will be more difficult.

Have they upgraded the the standard WRX brakes which struggle to cope with the performance of the standard 2.0 ? Let alone the new 2.5 and with the eventual PPP that will be offered.

The Subaru figures for the STI appear to be down a bit on the 05, i think to do with a change in the gear ratios.

Mike, can we expect an improvement in the 06 STI PPP figures over the outgoing model ? I suspect you will be looking for around 320 bhp to acheive this ?

not sure about the performance figures quoted above for the STi.
The subaru brochure says a 5.4 for 0-62, but a top speed of 158. From memory I thought this used to be 155.
Re:PPP. the PPP on the STi was approx 15% uplift in bhp, so the same percentage applied should see a figure of approx 315bhp on the 2.5L. torque is almost the same in standard form (392Nm) as the PPP (405Nm) at the same revs (4000RPM)

What performance are we talking about? If you're doing 60, 70, 80 or even 130 and want to stop then they will perform the same with whatever engine you have.

The WRX still has the 4-pots with and performed perfectly well under normal road conditions and the steep hils where I tested them. I managed to come to a well-controlled stop at each point of 'testing'. Most people know that changes will be needed if you're going to push them beyond 'normal' use, especially when used on the track.

The figures quoted are from the official press releases. The STi has been given a top speed of 158.4 mph with a 0-60mph time of 5.0.

You do realise the UK STi now comes with the 6-speed transmission and DCCD? Sorry only kidding There have been some changes to the gear ratios.

Don't doubt the source, just they seem a little contradictory. A whole .4 second to realise another 2mph! Seems a little odd, so one of the them is a tad suspect.

6-speed box and DCCD? My brochure says they now have 3 gears and it's front wheel drive! :-)

From my records, last year's figures were quoted at:

0-60 mph = 5.1 seconds
0-62mph = 5.5 seconds

The magazine will be purchased for me at home so i have no intention of having another sent out out here in Turkey, I understand your stance on this but this is purely a convenience issue. I subscribe to Scooby mag and get many issues of Autocar posted out to me from time to time at great expense, I'm just very interested in seeing "hot off the press" information on the new impreza now and not in 2 weeks time !
