Default Bought my first scoob today

Hey all,

Put a deposit on my first impreza today

shes an 02 wrx sti type uk, black with the big sti spoiler and the pink sti graphics

fssh, brembos, climate, just had 3 year service and 4 new boots,

hopefully pick her up next weekend if not sooner.

Let the mods commence.

gonna be looking for a suitable jap style exhaust system with good sound and performance, and probably some defi gauges

any suggestions?

not sure in england man, id say you will get the hks and nurspec for about 550 or 600 sterling??
then after that ur talking about replacing the downpipe, which has the main cat which is the most restrictive part of the exhaust, headers and up pipe would be next, depends but with the right fuelling and maybe a remap you could be talking an extra 40bhp+

will i be okay to just get the downpipe and system to start with? or will i need an remap? how much is all this gonna cost ?

whats the best blow off valve too, id rather have the chatter from just an air filter like i did on the cossie but ive heard that induction kits wreck the maf on scoobs.

to be honest man if you gonna ask the cost of evey small thing it aint gonna be pretty, ya know? like i said the nurspec or hks(thats centre section and back box) will be bout £550+ id imagine then the downpipe will set u back another £200, u dont have to get a remap but a lot of guys swear by it when going full decat, i have a 98 v4 type r sti and have blitz induction and it runs fine with that, and the hks ssqv blow off valve, some guys wudnt have either, its all preference, run it on the best fuel available to you, dont take cheap *** shortcuts in any department especially servicing! uuhh anything else?

Bu99er And I thought you might buy mine

Only joking Hope you enjoy the new car. I knew you'd buy the STi after speaking to you the other day. Just go steady with the mods and research them well before committing, as mistakes can be costly. As for the best DV, it's already fitted and is the standard Subaru recirc. If you want to hear it blowing off do a search on here for the "resonator" mod, which will give your car a better supply of colder air and make the standard DV and induction much more audible. Costs nothing and won't screw up your fuelling. Also think about getting the handling sorted before piling extra horses into a standard car.

Enjoy

i want the bov and the exhaust for the noise as well as the performance. but after talking to you the other day mate i will definately buy the anti roll bar and the droplinks for the rear end.

only mods i really want is the exhaust, bov, anti roll bar and some nice defi gauges.

other than the usual smoked side repeaters its staying as is cos its gorgeous.

Just bare in mind that the BOV will cause over fuelling leading to backfiring which can wreck the cats, borewash which can thin the oil and lead to premature cylinder lining deterioration along with bottom end problems as the oil thins and will not get you any performance gains whatsoever and may infact reduce it in certain situations. The OE unit is most suitable unless you run major mods with greatly increased boost levels that it cannot cope with. As I said, do the resonator removal and get the BOV sound (albeit a bit quieter) with none of the problems and for free, along with a potential performance benefit due to the free-er flowing, cooler air.

A little light reading

I think you have got a good model but I am biased, I have got one too

This is mine

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...02sti/tat5.jpg

Get a Defi centre pod like this

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...i/e3eff8af.jpg

If you get the earlier type of controller it will fit nicely where the ashtray goes, the newer type I think is slightly bigger and may need to go in the glovebox.

But most importantly, enjoy it!!

well im looking at exhausts at the moment,

im looking for the jap street racer "up at an angle" style pipe, that standard pipe is doing nothin for that lovely flat 4 growl.

im getting vibes that blitz or hks is the way to go.

I'm not too up on classics, but AFAIK it can still be done. The classic IIRC doesn't have the ram-air scoop and so the resonator pokes out of the wing into the engine bay sucking lots of warm dirty air up. They're usually held on by 2 bolts, one beside the airbox and another accessed either behind/below the headlight or through the foglight apperture. The resonator itself needs to be removed through the wheelarch by removing the arch liner. Seal off the holes between wing and engine bay and possibly open up a way for more air to enter the wing and Bobs you auntie Mabel. Don't be tempted to add ducting to the airbox, maybe from a foglight apperture, as this will provide too much air at speed and also allow water, dirt and debrit a direct entry to the induction system. I would recommend a good free flowing air filter too, such as JR Racing, K&N or Green. Finally, seal around the airbox where it meets the wing with some rubber hose.

Frayz, yes the wheels are the 18 inch Prodrive ones as fitted to the WR1, the rims cost about £250 each from Subaru or you might find some second hand ones on e-bay or Revolution do some pretty good copies. My gauges were put in by a previous owner when the car was almost new but he got all the stuff from a company called Nitosport, I dont know if they still exist or not! As for mods, if the car has PPP it should be quick enough, but if it hasn't there are other options including remaps from the likes of TSL, WRC Developments and Scoobyclinic, you will probably need a bigger fuel pump and combine this with one of the decent de-cat exhausts you are considering and you should get more power than a ppp car for less money! You might also want to consider some Prodrive springs along with the Prodrive geometry settings to improve the already very good handling.
Charlie, the blanking plate is actually a little storage box from a Forester, if you look in the Ice forum on here and look in the faq you should find all the part numbers and fitting instructions.
