Is there any point in buying a knocklink sensor if the only mods done are decat centre section, Magex backbox, fuel pump upgrade and ecutek remap?

I don't want to ruin my engine but I don't want to buy 'stuff' when it's not needed?

Thanks.

had my full deact and tek2 remap for a while now, not running a knocklink.

way i look at it is the guys who designed the ecutek remap are still operating within safe running parameters and as long as you run the fuel it's mapped for, i don't see why there should be any problems.

the only plus side i can see for a knocklink running our sort of minor modifications will be in it detecting a poor batch of fuel ( i think i'm right in guessing this will show some sort of activity?) so if you're concerned this may happen, go for it

Hello bud, i don't know, is your car an JDM import or a EU version.
What's the highest octane rating in Cyprus?

If it's a Jap spec i would get one unless it's been chipped/remapped
to run a lower octane.

Would'nt worry too much if it's UK/EU

All best either way

uk my99, was mapped with magnex d/pipe,cente section and b/box. now running afterburner vortex b/box.

done at Power Engineering, got a very pleasing 277 bhp, this probably means a not so pleasing 260odd bhp elsewhere

I don't know how to link, sorry.

But the thread was started by spark666 and called UK or import
The best bit is towards the end where he gets Arsey with David from
API, Davids answer is a peach.

Find and enjoy !!

Ive spoken to a few tuning garages about the knocklink (power engineering, well lane, scooby clinic) and was told by all that they are a waste of time , I quote "if the engines gonna blow a strip of coloured led's aint gonna make the slightest bit of difference, by the time you can react to a potentrialy dangerous situation the damage is done, all it does is tell you that your engines blown but you'll already know that because of the bang, the standard knock sensor does its job perfectly well as long as the car is set up correctly and isnt mapped too close to the limit". I was told this by someone at power engineering and have been told similar by 2 other garages.

Thank god!!

At last!!

What I have been going on about for ages!!

The lights are purely for show, for Chav appeal .....

As said, if they go red and it means a shagged engine then its too late!! Better to put the cost towards the repair!

OR admit, for foook sake, that they make you feel like a real man and the NovaBoys think you are cool in the MacDonalds car Park!!!

I'm know there are many specialist scoob tuners who recommend the use of a KL (RCM, BR, GGR etc...) so as always there are those who do and those who don't.

Do whatever makes you happy and fu@k what other people say, you pays your money as they say..!

Good answer, you have to choose.

Listen to BOB RAWLE, ANDY FORREST, PAUL BLAMIRE, PAT HEREBORN.

Or listen to a T*AT like pslewis. Choice is yours.

"by the time you can react to a potentrialy dangerous situation the damage is done,"

Long term det kills engines too, which can be avoided if you can monitor det levels.

"all it does is tell you that your engines blown but you'll already know that because of the bang,"

..nice theory! ...not what its used for!

"the standard knock sensor does its job perfectly well as long as the car is set up correctly and isnt mapped too close to the limit".

well thats ok if the car is a uk car. jap cars mapped for higher grade fuel will not be able to compensate enough.

How do you suppose mappers set up a car for best performance? they will of course be checking for det wont they with det cans? a knocklink works the same way.

It takes a bit more than 1 or 2 seconds to destroy your engine, seeing the knock indicator shows you have a problem, then you can resolve that problem with octane booster or taking your foot off the gas and taking it easy whilst you see if anything else is up.
Transient det is very hard to hear also, but it will show up on a knocklink, now long term this will totally destroy your engine, so for the cost of around 150 quid you can save 2.5k or take it to one of the above garages who will no doubt take the money off you without hesitation or recommendations about fitting one of these as another safeguard.

Just quoting what I've been told by a few of the so called reputable scooby tuners, I am quite happy to learn from and be corrected by the more knowledgeable members of the forum , after all thats what its here for. I do tend to get the feeling that sometimes things can be blown out of proportion though, you do seem to get negative feedback from people more than the positive, im sure there are thousands of modded scoobys out there running just fine without a knocklink ,remap etc , just never get to hear about them cos people only tend to post when something goes wrong.

I have a standard Type-R STi V5 which I am running on 100octane out here but I'm taking it back to the UK soon and getting it re-mapped by AndyF.

I keep hearing that these Knocklings are a good thing for JDM cars.

By the way, what is a Lambada Link?

Don't let the ScoobyNet **** brigade get to you ........ they are NOT more knowledgeable!! They are generally a bunch of old women who 'like' to think they have a Special car and it needs Special measures that ONLY they know about ...... they are generally lonely people with ONE interest, which is sad and why I let them get away with a lot of posted crap.

They have NOTHING else in their little lives, they live for their cars, Nowt wrong with that - just DO NOT end up like them!!!!!

You are talking a LOT of sense ..... you have a normal head like a lot on here!! Don't lose it to the *****!!!

Together we can get the truth out there!!!!

In my opinion extras lights make the dash look good, makes people think you've got some kinda super modded engine, when in fact you've got an air filter and sporty mats

I'm all for safety but unless your modding to the extreme and then racing the **** out of your very expenisve toy, don't bother ! spend it on a nice big Spoiler that says I'm not a chav

I started a thread ages ago asking where to buy a knocklink from and PSLEWIS told me not to get one and gave me a load of ****. anyway i have got one cost me £150 brand new 3 months ago and its still in new condition because i never used it i took it out of its packaging read the instructions and put it in the cuboard. how can you trust some thing that you have to set the sensitivity on. yes if some one had det can's and a laptop and new exactly what they were doing and set it using these on a rolling road then yes it might do something. butif the lights go red whilst your driving lightly lets turn the sensivity down so they don't come on again. how does the average bloke know when the lights are suppose to be on and not on.I'm not saying don't get one but i wasted my money take notice of pslewis he does speak some sense.
