Went to fill up this morning, expecting a pleasant surprise as they were advertising normal unleaded at 88.9p

Only to find that optimax was 98.9

I have taken my eye off the ball over recent weeks due to the fluctuating prices and just filled up and taken the hit, but I cant ever remember an 10p/litre difference between normal and optimax.

Does this seem right?

Thieving tw@ts That's why I don't use Shell any more. SUL at my local Sainsbury's is 92.9 and only hit 95.9 during the silliness a week or two back I remember the oil crisis in the late 70's when my Dad was running Shell garages, and people would drive a couple of miles to save 1p per gallon. Funny how people have forgotten the gallon and how we come to accept similar rises now on each litre when 1p equates to 4.546p on a gallon

What is more annoying is the fact they pay the same price for either Optimax or 95RON (A fuel station owner tells me). - Seriously!

Can anybody else substantiate this?

The last time I filled up at the Shell station in Bracknell I paid 100.9p/litre for Optimax!!! It's empty again now so I'll see what the price is later.

Exactly as you say, some Shell gargaes are independantly owned and therfore seem to make up their own prices. The shops trade under shell but the fuel is not.

I went into a BP in Cardiff a couple of days ago expecting to get BP Ultimate for less than 100p/litre as for the previous two days the media had been full of "petrol prices to be cut by 4p/litre".

I got out the car, looked at the price on the pump.......

109.9p/litre!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the ****'s all that about, nearly £1.10 a litre even though BP had said it was cutting its prices by 4p!!!!!! Definately a gready franchise owner taking the pi55.
Needless to say I got back in my car and drive off, cursing the tw@ts.

I used to work at a Shell petrol station when I was at school.

The price charged for petrol was always dictated by Shell and the manager only made any money on the goods sold inside the shop, he didn't get a penny for petrol sales.

Whether this is still the case, or indeed the case with every franchise I don't know.
