IIRC Scoobymag or someone similar did an airflow test on these and several other filters recently, and they were no better, if not a bit worse than the standard paper filter. I prefer JR Racing, K&N or Green personally.

I was thinking of something like a K&N as an alternative. The car's a MY00, from what I gather, you've got to be a bit careful with the MAF sensor on this model.

MAF's on 98-00 cars were sensitive. AFAIK JR, K&N & Green haven't caused any issues. The main culprit was the ITG filter.

Sorry, to butt in (again). Retailers have told me that the ITG filter was a huge seller and never had any greater problems than with any other aftermarket filter.

I've only heard one plausible reason why the ITG was labelled as being more of a MAF killer than any other filter.

I'd would like to hear from any ITG users, good and bad.

Don't be! There are thousands of others who have never had a problem. They're not about to shout about their car is running fine. We only hear about the few that blow up, just as likely to be caused by something else.

Is it an MY98/99. If so, just keep an eye out of the symptoms of a Maf on the blink (uneven idle, revs fluctuating -maybe threatening to stall- when approaching junction, hesitation at about 4k) and you should be fine. If you get any of the above, drive off boost to your nearest specialist who can check it very easily for you.

Its the MY99/00 cars (with the phase 2 engines and crystal headlights/fogs) that suffered the MAF problems.
ITG filters use an oil base, this seeped out and covered the MAF, causing it to give bad/faulty readings, you should only use a dry filter on these cars, plus I think there were problems with induction kits vibrating also which caused MAF failures on these model years.
