Default plipper batteries

can i change the batteries on my alarm remote control (subaru one, my00) without any problems like having to perform some kinda special procedure to get it to work with the alarm please? the sales assistant in halfords promptly told me of horror stories of people being locked out of their cars cos they replaced the batteries without synchronising the plipper with the car or something.
