wife wants a scooby...
My dear other half has decided she wants a impreza classic wagon,can i have some honest opinions on what mpg she can expect.her daily drive consists of sitting in town traffic for about 20 mins each way,never gets out of 3rd gear.what sort of mpg would this give?any one do this sort of drive daily?
Also would the figures be different for a ukturbo and a import wrx?

Funny this, I was about to post the same thing. We just got a new dog, Collie, the misses wants to get something a bit bigger, as;
Hairy dog + wet muddy fields + 2 door tigra = mucho messo !
She was looking at an Astra estate or a Pug 206 estate somthing like that to put the mutt in the back not not too big as she prefers smaller cars to drive, so would be interested as well, what to look out for, what to avoid, and am I just mad to even think about letting her have one?

If you have to ask....
Expect low twenties at best for town driving, possibly high teens. mid to low teens if you put your foot down and....wait for it... maybe even 30mpg if you get a steady cruise going.
And Scoobies really prefer SUL, many use Optimax.

Surely something with a TDI badge would be a better job? No worries about sitting in traffic guzzling the juice, you get to avoid the high "whole life" costs and the residuals are possibly better. £4.60 for 20 miles in the scoob as opposed to £4.30 for 40+ miles in the TDI?
You know what the sensible option is..... Personally I think everyone should own a scoob at some point in their lives!!!!

Ok so its not perfect, but its so much more fun when you get an opening in the traffic! And if you dont mess about with it, it will give you years of fun. I do 15 miles to/from work and 15miles to/from the stables at 3-4 times a week and the mileage isnt too bad. Its the servicing costs that cripple you, but if you know a man who can . Put it this way, it beats my prev 1.2 sxi corsa hands down

I'd agree with dpb, i was doing far too much town driving in mine hence why i got rid of it, 15 mpg, heavy clutch, etc......basically doesn't really like going slow! Then when you get where you were going you have to worry about it being there in one piece/at all when you go back to it. Don't get me wrong, they are great cars, just don't think it would be the most practical solution in this case (unless you have alterior motives and are going to 'borrow' it most of the time....in which case i'd totally understand )

Usual Scooby story, if you are concerned about MPG, don't buy one. They are great fun but aren't cheap to run. My wife uses mine on the school run, about 3 miles each way, and it swills Optimax back. But what the heck; I have it at the weekend and it's worth it. IMHO buy one and think 's*d it'.

On another point - a lot of people like scoobs from the outside but lets face it the look of the cockpit ain't the most inspiring., but thats not what we buy them for.
Its just a comment frequently made about mine, although in fairness the newer scoobies are a great improvement. Do a trawl about for some pics you'll see what I mean....
