Nearly lost to 330ci
Going to work this morning along a back road, when I came up behind a 330ci. The guy see's me a floor's it. Never shy for a bit of fun I follow suit happy in the knowledge that my 05 STi PPP will pee all over his over priced BM. Shock horror, round the bends its clear he has more grip than me. Quite a bit more as it happens. I'm running on the Bridgestone RE070 tyres......... and there ****. I knew they were crap in the wet, but to lose out on grip in the dry to a BMW? We both went round a corner at about 85kmph and while he stayed on line I started to drift to the other side of the road, much to the supprise of me and the oncoming pickup. A slight lift brought it back on line but even so, I didn't expect this not after reading all the articles on Scooby's regarding grip & road holding.
I know for a fact that my last car (Focus RS) would have been all over him. It deffo had more front end bite & grip than my STi even though it had 240bhp going threw the front wheels.
Thinking either the tyres really are that bad or might my geometry be out?
Sorting insurance out for Prodrive spring kit & PFF7 alloys. I think it needs it.

Doesn't surprise me mate
Have found that with my01 wrx ppp its not as quick as it feels and have sometimes struggled to wipe the floor with some cars out there.
Previously owned a 320i and that 6 cylinder engine was pretty dam good although not a patch on a wrx/sti. So am sure the 330i was more than a match.
Whilst in the 90's the impreza ruled the others have caught up now and there are so many fast cars out there
Reckon subaru will need to up the performance even on standard models to get that back and then ***** mite stop doing websites like 'scooby killers'

Looks like your driving
I can say that either your car is pretty new and you havnt scrubbed the RE070's in or you are having problems and blaming it on the tyres.
First thing to do is check the tyre pressures, i can say that these grip like nothing in this world in the dry, but they need to have the heat in them for them to be at their best.
The other thing is that your being too agressive on the corners, which you may have been, if its your first scoob you have to learn to drive them, its a little different to a fwd car, especially the A-DCCD, but you should have slaughtered the 330 on the bends, i do

Why not?
A RWD car with a pretty well sorted chassis with 254Bhp. What gives a 4wd car with 305Bhp the right to dick on it.
4wd is not a licence to out corner every other car on the road - particularly in the dry.
IMO - if the BM had the Bhp of a given Scoob, it would pull away

Funnily enough some wee upstart in a 330Ci tried it on with my P1 tonight in the damp around some round-abouts, he got nowhere near! I eventually let him go, only to watch him nearly loose the back end. The Toyo T1-R's are miles better than the P-Zero's I had previously!

To my knowledge the 06 330i only has 255hp, and far less torque that an STI.
If you were lossing traction when he wasnt, I would check that your tyres are on the correct way around (see it before on a new car!) and that your diff lock isnt on!
Regarding the comments above, even a fairly poor drive should be able to keep up with a BMW in an STI...(I do).
I also have recently experienced issues with my STI 'jumping' not sliding sideways on bumpy corners..... was the road surface flat?

Well my 330CI only had 231bhp and on a Scooby day out, in the wet, there was certainly no problem keeping up except against much more powerful cars on long straights, and then I caught up again on the bendy bits...against a range of Scooby driving talent

BMW handles better wider tyres more grip, feels preety quick once its over 80. Scooby annilalates it up to 80. BMW cost 15k more but i let the missus have that and drive the scoob!!!!

Well it's deffo not my driving. Like I said, in my previous car I know I would have been all over him. There just does'nt seem to be the grip I want. It understeers far too easily. I'll check my presures just in case, but you know when something ain't right. The way the car feels, the way it reacts. I know the tyre's need heat in them to work at there best but what do you do? ask the bloke if he wouldn't mind waiting till I heat my tyres up? I did flick the A-DCCD to the rear most setting, as leaving it in auto is even worse. Been practicing with it going around and coming off roundabouts, and auto sucks.
It could well be that the geometry is out. It wouldn't be the first time this has ever happened (not to me but in general). I seem to remember that "EVO" mag has had a Scoob & a Clio V6 that both had there geometry's out. Thats why I really want the spring kit fitted. After that and geting some rubber I have confidence in, namely Pilot sport 2's (Had on Focus) then I'll have no excuse.
Oh yes, I didn't lose. He didn't get away, but it was hard work keeping up.

You should leave the A-DCCD in auto, it will oversteer rather than understeer but it will be better than having it all the way back, which will just understeer all day, so that looks to be your problem
Wheels will go where the rear wants to, in auto it will just pull you out of the corners , but you have to have confidence in using it on auto, it feels weird but give it a chance, ive used it on my JDM STi for over 18 months now, it felt weird to start with, now just use to it and on my second set of RE070's

PMSL.....great thread.
Tyres need heat in them, LOL
Geometry is out, more LOL
Spring kit fitted, even more LOL
Better Tyres, FFS PMSL!
Why maybe, just maybe, the bloke in the BMW was actually a better driver than you? and all the mods in the world would not have changes the outcome.
Keep smiling!

A friend of mine has a 330ci running at 300bhp and it is a quick bit of kit. Looks bog standard but goes like a bar-steward. Don't underestimate anything out there, even if it looks standard it doesn't mean it is.
If you've got your diff fully wound back and your getting understeer then you need more throttle. It shouldn't matter how bad the geo on the front is from the factory with a planted right foot the back should come round nicely.

With regards to the A-DCCD. I thought that flicking it to the lowest green light that that sent more power to the rear wheels? have I got this wrong?
