Intercooler splitter for pre MY97?
#1
Does anyone know if there is an intercooler splitter available for pre MY97 UK cars with the angled intercooler ?
I have contacted Michael Ferries ( BladeRnnr ) but he has not yet developed one for the earlier Scoobs.

Not a splitter but I mounted three 120mm fans under the intercooler to suck air in through the scoop on my 94 WRX when I had the OE "slanted" intercooler.
This works well reducing temperatures and does not affect high speed runs. It also slows heat sink when sitting in slow-moving traffic.
Maplin sell the fans for £15 each and they use less than 0.5 amps each.
If you are after better intercooling for a small cost, it is well worth considering.
Thanks
Gavin

Matt,
Afraid not - the mounting points and pipework are different.
Bolt-on replacements are expensive unfortunately - minimum of £500 for a top-mount and £900++ for a front mount.
Using Mike's splitter and some fans on the bottom of the unit will improve the performance considerably - for probably less than £100.
I also made up an intercooler water spray using a windscreen washer motor (£4) and some "misting" garden irrigation nozzles (£3 for 6 but only used 2) and some 4mm tubing which also helped with the original unit.

Matt,
As they say, anything is possible - you can MAKE the later intercooler fit but it is not a straight bolt-on job
As you say, you will need the "Y" pipe (and need to check that it will fit the turbo outlet and the other hose fits the throttle body inlet).
Good luck!
Thanks
Gavin

So if you were to get the later pipe work etc it would still be a hassle?
Reason I'm asking is I'm looking at a 95 STI Waggon.
It has the std. STI Intercooler on the angle and waterspray but if brought I'm going to swap the bonnet and grill for the later shape etc and would liek to upgrade the intercooler.

Anyone who is going to the Northern Meet this month and is interested in an intercooler splitter for either a late or early scoob, Michael Ferries (BladeRnnr), who makes these to order, will be there and will take your order.
