Grinding/grating noise from brakes.
My month old 1000 mile WRX PPP makes a light grating noise from the brakes. It's not a big problem but the only other time I have heard it is 15 years ago when I had an XR2 and the disc/pads were shot. It almost sounds that the pads are worn out, which obviously cannot be the case. It might be a harder pad than I am used to, have had a Forester for last 3 years!!!!
Am I worrying unduly??

If it's after starting car and for the first few miles, then it's probably just that the discs have slightly rusted, which is normal- especially if journey is first after car has stood for a few days- or say the day after you have cleaned alloys and rinsed off with water, and after rainy weather generally. Once the light rusting has been cleaned off by the brake pads after first few braking applications, the sound should disappear.
If the sound persists after a long journey, it will pay to find out why.
