Default If the EVO sounded like a scoob, would you buy one?

Just wondered what the reaction would be. The tide is turned, the scoob sounds like a normal performance car and the EVO has the warble.

Classic
Personally if the EVO6 had the scoob sound then no classic on earth would get a look in, except maybe a 22B (but that doesn't count really)

New age
I wasnt so keen on the new shape EVO but in some colours, with the right wheel option, higher std power out the box than the scoob, the reknowned better handling and drive and if it also had the warble ....hmmmmmm. EVO sales figures might just rise a tad me thinks.

I would go for a Evo 5 or 6 regardless of sound - but tbh - I think for me, I could not find a better car to suit my style than the 5 Type R I currently have! I could be wrong, but it just feels right in the driving seat of the R!

I would like to have an evo 6 too regardless of sound, but i prefer the looks of the scooby. It stands out better than an evo i think. The main reason i would like to own an evo is to say i have!! as with the scoob....before i fell in love with her! cheers, willsy

Evos can sound really nice too with the right exhaust but I think it lacks more than the noise.

The only thing that impresses me with the evo is their sheer ***** out acceleration.

The Evo's a nice car and looks like a scary machine but the scooby looks (not sounds) a bit more refined not an outright boy racer car.

Dont think noise is the issue but when I recently debated scooby or evo, price and what you get for your money was obvious...................

Had to be a scooby!!

Not the handling though? That suprises me as the EVO in std form has always been a better handling car than the scoob.

It was more to do with the running costs that decided it for me, not the noise.

The service intervals and what Evo owners often regard as 'consumables' put me off.

I must confess that I have never actually driven one simply because I didn't and don't want to prefer it to my Impreza. I'm not convinced I would but I don't want to risk it just yet.

Gary
On a smooth track Gary, but on the road I found it (an Evo 6 GSR) to be way too stiff and nervous! I just wasn't comfortable pushing it when the going got rough. My MY99 feels much better resolved and just more confidence inspiring for bumpy UK roads.

To be honest, even if the Evo sounded less like a demented Dyson, I'd still have the classic, it's better looking, nicer to drive at low speed, more approachable when the roads are less than ideally surfaced and just has more character somehow. I was amazed by the Evo's sheer kick in the kidneys turn of speed though and it's grip and traction are impressive even to someone used to 4WD, which is to say very impressive indeed. However, AYC only works when the wheels are on the ground!!! ;-)

A no brainer for me, no such thing as an EVO Wagon so it's Scooby
all the way.

Practicality and performance all in one package.

Not for Gary I prefer something you have to pick up by the scruff of the neck and fight with rather than the car doing it all for you. The evo just feels a little numb if you know what you're doing.

I've driven the 1 around rally gb stages and they just felt too competent. The acceleration was raw though even on the older ones.

The 3 was a little better but pre active yaw I believe.

I would have any version of the VIII MR3xxx over any version of the Impreza, purely for the simple reason that they are so much rarer than Scoobs.
I can honestly say that in the last 3 months I have seen one Evo 8 on the road (disregarding the 260) compared to loads of Classics, WRX's & STi's.

Don't get me wrong I love the STi but if I were slightly richer I would have an Evo

Thumbs up

I Had a WRX with PPP, PFF7 18's, Godspeed front & rear big brake kit braided lines with dot 5.1, Prodrive spring kit, Whiteline ARB, solid drop links, ALK , ARB poly bushes, Powerstation geometry it was fairly well sorted LOL. The Subaru was a fantastic car and with the above mods handled very well and I had no complanints about how well the car went. One day whilst passing local Mitsi garage made big mistake and went and drove MR 340 demo and had to have one !

The Mitsi has much better composure over the B road blast that I use to test how well a car handles (Road is Called the Seven sisters) at 110 in the suburu with all four wheels off the deck on landing it could get a little squirrelly whereas in the Evo it will take them at 130 no problem. As for sound with a proper exhaust, with down pipe and decat changed, sounds like the Gods of War have arrived when it gets on boast.

IMHO they are both great cars and you would never be disappointed driving either.

Who gives a stuff about rarity! Seeing others on the road is a vindication of your good taste :-) Have what you like and be happy with it. Simple as that.

More common than Evos they may be, but they aint exactly as common as Fiestas yet are they!! ;-) Give it a few years and the UK evo's will suffer exactly the same fate, but like the Impreza, that won't mean they're no longer great cars.

Evos are becoming more common (i drive an Evo 8 MR FQ320), i live in small town, theres at least 8 evos here or in surrounding villages. Similar number of Imprezas. I just prefered the Evo.

That's my point, I can't have what I like otherwise I'd be in a Lancer Evolution VIII MR320

Never ever will the Evo be as "common" as the Impreza purely down to the number that are made and imported into the country each year.
I don't know exact figures but I think the Evo has some stupidly low world wide production run of about 4,000. And out of those only about 1,000 will be destined to reach UK dealers.
Compare that to the mass produced Subaru Impreza and you now know why I would love a Evo on my drive

There were a total of 700 MR's bought into the country, not shure about how many of the new 9's they are going to bring in.

I just like Scooby's, for every day performance use I feel they are better than the Evo overall. Had an 04 WRX, looked at a new Evo, bought a new STi. Love it

The nearest Subaru dealer is 40Mins away the nearest Mitsi dealer is 1 mile away. I still have had 3 Sti's and 2 MR340's.
It's a bit lame to say just that a dealers nearer you'll buy a car from them.

Anyway, back to the thread, The sound of a PPP STi internal in the car sounds muted and not loud enough. I like the sound at tickover but at full chat it's "strangled". I had a MY04 STi which I'm sure was louder but there you go.

The new Spec C has a equal length header so you loose the warble anyway.

A FQ340 with decat sound the nearest thing to WRC that I've heard, wind the windows down and hit that boost and just listen, trouble is the sound is in the back of you mind when the car launches cos you have other things to think about!

Ther is also the question of vehicles weight.

Evo 8.5 MR's (official UK dealer supplied) 1400 kg
03/05 STI 's (official UK dealer supplied) 1470 kg

evo with a burble, mmmmmmm.

Mind any "normal" car with the burble would make it more desirable.

I would probably swap if the insurance and running costs were similar.
I pay under £700 for a 2001 UK classic f/comp lowest on an evo5/6 was £1100.

(thinks for a minute) evo with a burble though, mmmmmmm.

smaller house = faster car, just need to talk to the soon to be wife.

how much for a wedding? **** that could see me in an evo7!!!! & keep the scoob, best of both worlds!
