Default If it's a fake, what's the point....

....Sat at a set of traffic lights yesterday evening at twilight with all my windows down when a Classic Scoob comes up behind me. I can see a big rear spoiler...bonnet vents etc. He puts his foot down on his throttle and revs hard what does not sound flat four in the slightest....no burble whatsoever?
Is it a sport made to look like a turbo?....perhaps i'm completely mistaken and it had equal length headers and was very modified....or is it something completely different with a Classic bodykit....who knows?.....And as for the colour.....difficult to see in the twilight but it looked as though it was sprayed in that pyschodelic colour that you see so many Novas spayed in these days.
.......confimation that the Classic is perhaps fast becoming something that we hoped it wouldn't.

However, most importantly, I still enjoy my Classic and will not let it put me off....i think.

Theres a Classic shape impreza sport near me and he has a big exhaust on it and it sound exactly like any other turbo impreza.

Must have been a Ford Mondeo with a Impreza kit on.

Mega tuned with equal length headers if you ask me. Why imitate a classic when you can pick them up for peanuts these days.

Yeah, the sport is still a flat 4, so you if there is no burble its probably a turbo with equal length headers.

Insurance reasons?

People would rather spend a couple of grand on body mods, rather than give it to the insurance company.

Or in my case until I reached 23 no one would insure me.. Now I need to sell my sport and I'm finding it difficult.

Have seen a couple of 1.6's done as Turbo replicas - cheap as anything, £5K for an 02 one ! for a kid who cant insure a decent car its one way of getting a nice looking car that is insurable. Would imagine the engine on this wouldnt sound much even with a big exahust on it.

Although, have seen loads of 'modded' cars on TV and in magazines - stuff like a 1.2 Corsa some kid had spent £7K on ICE, DVD etc.., £5K on paint and bodykit etc... and £000000000 on the engine and handling - whats the point of that ?

So for almost £20K he had basically a very expensive stereo with nice paint around it that drives crap and would get scared of even slight hills....

You will not fully replicate the sound of a turbo on a sport as the headers are more equal on the N/A than the unequal length on the classic turbo.... they can sound similar but are more harsher and raspier sounding.

I personally drive a Sti version 5. But i dont think it is right to call naturally aspirated imprezas as fake. What gives u the right to say so. Calling it a community you should accept all imprezas.

Its like a WRX owner telling a UK Turbo owner his car is fake, Like a sti owner telling a WRX owner his car is fake. I mean what the hell, its like a 22B owner telling a P1 owner its fake.

Come on guys, theres people even on this forum who own Impreza Sports and im sure its nothing but running costs that forces them to buy one. I mean insurance isnt much, fuel isnt too bad so they are saving a lot of money. Also like someone said, the fact that some people cant get insured with a turbo so have to satisfy themselves with something near enough the same car.

what so its not allowed to have a larger spoiler cos "only" turbos have them

apart from a turbo bonnet which u can justify, how in the blue hell can u call him fake by having an after market exhaust, spoiler, wheels etc etc

I'm not. The scoop would be the main one. I know that in the classic turbo the bonnet vents are cosmetic, but only the turbo bonnet has them. A sport with these features is a fake.

In 1995 the Impreza came in a wide array of models: base Impreza, L, 2.2L, LX, and Outback.
1995 is the first year for the Outback version of the Sport Wagon and also for the 2.2L engine to be used in the Impreza line.
There were two engines used in the 1995 impreza, the 1.8L and the 2.2L.

Impreza base model: coupe and sedan FWD (front wheel drive) or AWD
L model: coupe, sedan and sport wagon with 'active safety group' (AWD and anti-lock brakes with 4 wheel discs)
2.2L AWD model: coupe, sedan and sport wagon
LX 2.2L AWD model: coupe, sedan, sport wagon
Outback Sport wagon
The all new 1995 Outback Sport Wagon was a L Sport Wagon with the 'active safety group' plus special two-tone paint, Outback woven cloth seat material, raised white letter tires, cargo tray in the rear, roof rack, mud flaps, floor mats, and the Outback logos and graphics. The ground clearance was 6.3", the same as the L Sport Wagon.
As did all 1995 Imprezas, the Outback Sport came with either the 1.8L engine and manual trans, or the 2.2L engine and automatic transmission.
Engines: 4 cyl. boxer, sequential multi-port fuel injected, distributorless ignition

1.8L: 110 hp, 110 torque@4400rpm
2.2L: 135 hp, 140 torque@4400rpm

Manual transmission available with 1.8L engines. The only 1.8L with auto. trans was on the base Impreza model
Automatic transmission available only with the 2.2 L engines. There were no 2.2L with manual. trans.

Economy: city/highway
1.8L fwd- manual 24/32, auto 24/30 (base Impreza model only)
1.8L awd - manual 23/28
2.2L awd 22/29

All-wheel-drive

0ptional on L models as a stand-alone option
Standard on L models with 'Active safety group' package (incl ABS, 4 wheel discs)
Standard on all engine models and on all LX, Sport and Outback models

kilo 4queue - the Sport came with drums at the rear until 2001 where they put disks on the rear of the Bugeyes!

Sorry to burst your bubble M8 but thats the truth. I'll put money on it (wife had a 99 sport for a year or so and I changed her rear shoes on the car)
