Thumbs up MY05 UK PPP or EU Import WRX

Dealer discounted WRX MY05 UK £19500 with 3yrs warranty / 3yrs roadside recovery / free first service (I think) & PPP

Or

AllBrandNew £16202 OTR + £600 ish for CAT1 alarm / locking nuts + £1600 PPP = £18402

So 1k difference between the two, not a lot in it is there?......

Wot shall I do??

I would personally go for the uk car, just for peace of mind, it'll be so much easier if anything was ever to go wrong with it, for £1000, it just ai'nt worth it, and you'll probably get your £1000 back on the re-sale value compared to an import.

Yeah thats what I think as well. I am asking Subaru if they will discount the PPP as well, as I read with interest the threads on insurance and 'illegal exhausts'!

I bought an 05 last October and then it was a good deal, however with the PPP deal and free servicing (Dealer by me is still offering this with PPP) I'd, at this time, buy a UK car. BTW I've heard of deals ~£18500 being offered..!

The £1k difference doesn't really make it worthwhile going for the import. When I imported my MY02 there was £5k difference, which made it worth doing but I wouldn't do it now with such a small price difference. Go for the UK.

Actually yes I thought I was getting a good deal, but I now know that other dealers are offering even lower prices. I might shop around a bit more (especially if I can get free servicing as well)...

I've mailed all the dealers in the Kent area just out of interest to see what the best price they can come up with.......I'll let you know how I get on....

I have learnt by two difference dealers now that you cannot get a further discount by choosing not to have PPP, you can choose not to have it, but you wont get a discount!

I just went on confused.com and got a quote or to be more correct I didnt get a quote for a WRX with PPP!!!!! I can see this is going to be a problem! I can insure a P1, STI, or WR1 but not a WRX with PPP......

Update...went on Privilege and a WRX was £450ish for full no claims etc, they didnt quote for mods.

Went to elephant and they quoted me £650, and £1050 when listing the PPP mods!!!

I think I am going to have to buy an import, purely on the basis that I cant afford the insurance for the free PPP!!!

i was in the same boat mate. Really fancied the free PPP UK impreza, but couldn't bring myself to pay the huge increase in premiums. Went for a EU import from malta (via Motorpoint) and i couldn't be happier. Saved about £3.5k (with Cat1 alarm, tracker, wheel nuts and mats fitted), the car is serviced by subaru dealers without any problems, and the front seats are soooo much better than the UK model. Would recommend it to anyone.

Just don't do what i did and get yourself a hefty speeding conviction the day before you pick it up!!

Have a look at the threads in the Insurance section. A lot of people seem to have been getting good quotes from A Plan at Thatcham (myself included, facing just your difficulties). They know what they are talking about and are friendly too.

Marky, for £20k you should be able to pick up a WRX300 if there's any left which includes PPP as standard just like the WR1 and therefore is easier to insure. I'm 26, full no claims and live in a high risk area, APlan did mine for £800.

And you get the tracker thrown in free - worth another few hundred.

Only thing that bugged me was that you can have it in any colour so long as it is Mica Blue but having picked it up the colour is growing on me very fast.

Hmm a WRX300, I sort of begrudge buying one of these when you can get a WRX with PPP for free. I guess the resale will hold better value, but only if anyone actually liked the look of the WRX300

I have mailed Litchfield to ask them some questions. I am wondering if there is an importer out there that does everything for you i.e. transfer warranty / locking nuts / alarm and tracker. I noticed they did the later and their prices reflect it so I will see what they come back with.

I think if I find someone that gets it ALL sorted for me I will get an import....

Motorpoint will do everything except the wheelnuts, but you can pick these up from Halfords for £33 (McGard - identical to Subaru fitted ones) on your way to collect the car!

Quick point on the wheel nuts, I've been to three different halfrauds and if you want the high security mcgards wheel nuts you have to order them. Apparently mine are going to take 3 weeks to come in..... Ask for the ones with SL after the code number not SU ones they have in stock.

I got an import (didn't think about the ppp at the time), the best deal I could get was on a uk car was £18k for 04 wrx with ppp fitted and 10k miles on the clock. Got my import for £15995 + £400 for clifford chav alarm. Getting the ppp kit fitted next week for £1700. The UK dealers seem ok about servicing it (over the phone anyway). So I have spent £100 extra, but I got at new car with 19 miles on the clock, in the colour of my choosing. And I know it hasn't been ragged by anyone except me. Plus I got the better 05 interior and upgraded 05 bits.

If your not getting the ppp, the import is the way to go, but if you want it (and all these guys say you need it) and you can get a good deal, go UK.

Motorpoint seem to be the cheapest I can find out of all of them (even if you have to add on for metallic paint) £15599.....

They quote the Sigma M30 on the web site as an option. As this is the standard UK fit alarm, does anyone know if motorpoint get the replacement blip insert so one button does both the alarm and doors....???

Yep, the Sigma keyfob has a single button which operates alarm and door locks - the buttons on the subaru key become obsolete.

Sounds like your dealer has stiffed you - the PPP should be £1600 regardless of whether it's UK or EU.

Elephant £428 for WRX 300......(PPP as standard)....
Admiral £417 for WRX 300......

Both of these come up £600 for WRX!!! And no, I am not quoting on a WRX UK300 it is definately a WRX 300 as it only shows it as 2005.....

This is a joke....

If anyone has any doubt regarding the PPP on the WRX 300 is standard see below reply......

"As per the brochure, the specifications and technical data state 265ps/348nm torque as standard."

Just to close the thread....

I have decided to get a WRX300......

Mainly because after discount it was around 1k more than discounted WRX, and this was easily made up by the interior / tracker and subscription. Also the saving in insurance having the PPP as standard rather than a free option has me quids in!

Thanks for everyones help.....

Now to find cheap quick shift....

No! WRX new for £19500, though in reality you can get that a tad lower than 19k if you try.....
