Late registration?
I am looking to upgrade to a classic STI Version 5 and have found a MY00 that at face value appears to be a bargain.
However, the log book states that the car was registered in 2000 but on closer inspection I have found that it is a GC8E4ED (MY98 STI Version 4) rather than a GC8F4ED / GC8G4ED.
The car appears to have done very low milage (22K) and appears to be in good condition. It has also just had a full engine rebuild less than 5K ago?
Why / how would this happen and what does this mean? Should I steer clear or am I worrying about nothing?
Cheers
Chris

Hmmmm
It sounds a bit doubious, its 2 years old before it was registered?
Right the rules about this are the following:-
Registration from another country, registered abroad, the car should be registered to the date of manufacture or first registration.
So really, if its not a s or an early t reg, id be suspicious about the car.
Things to look for......
How many owners?
Does it have a service history that you can trace back to a speciallist?
Does it have the crystal headlights etc?
You may need to do some digging, and it may not be worth it in the end.

22k and 4 previous owners?
That means every owner has done a max of 5k/year. Law of averages says that at least one of them will have put normal mileage on it, ie 10-12k pa, which means the other 3 owners have even less miles to share out.
If it was a 1 or 2 owner car I could believe it.
I would tread carefully.

As far as I'm aware, a 98 car will be more difficult to modify easily than a later one due to the ecu being different, all the things that you've said about sounds like too many coincidences...
