Question loud noise from engine URGENT!

last nite a loud knocking noise came from the engine and it cut out, had trouble starting again as if the battery was going flat but once started the noise is still there as if something had come loose. car drives but will cut out if no gas. just recently got my car back from subaru after they repaired 3 oil leaks that were coming from the oil pump and the rocker cover ( think i got that right) they said they had to strip the engine to do all this work. what do you reckon?

Phone the garage and tell them. You have done this right? don't drive the thing. Sounds like something serious.

just been advised by subaru that it is a big end failure :-( they say this is common after recent repairs of oil leaks due to oil starvation?! what are my options are subaru liable to pay for this or is it down to me? not very happy at the moment?

I would say it is certainly down to the garage.

Sorry to read your thread.

I would say that the garage would be reponsible too, BUT, a friend of mine (RB5037) had the same problem after his RB5 was serviced (i.e. big end going) and the garage (reputable Subaru dealership) refused to pay as 'it happens'.

I think he posted on here somewhere with the story - he eventually got the engine rebuilt at API.

Rob, sorry to say but you will not get anywhere with the dealer. Be careful because they're likely to make a quite high charge even to strip and examine.

AND then tell you it's not their fault - at your cost.

I suggest that you save wind and time and phone calls and take it on the chin - just don't go back there. You could try a solicitor writing to them alleging faulty workmanship, but I'd expect that you'd be out of pocket the solicitors costs and still be no further forward.

Like I said, an unpleasant situation to be in.

I'm here on 01926 614333 if you want to call for a sensible chat about costs and options.

Good Luck no matter what David , APi Impreza / APi Engines
