Any Fully Synthetic Oil of 5W-40 is fine ..... the name on the front doesn't matter one toss!!

Personally I favour 10W .............. and I think 15W is WAY too thick.

Change the Oil every 6 months and/or 6,000miles and all will be well.

You will get people coming on telling you that if you spend less than £35 on Oil your Engine will blow-up .................. it's up to you, follow the sheep or do what you KNOW is right!

Thanks for the response, either the mechanic never changed the oil for fully synthetic would this be the reason why there was none in the sump and i mean bone dry?

I've been using Millers for a while now, currently CFS 10/40, previously XFS 5/40 No problems (as you would expect!)
Before the XFS 5/40 (probably little or no ester content by the way?) I used Castrol RS 10/60 and I swear the engine was mechanically quieter on the Millers! (03 STi) The CFS is one of their "competition" range and is "3 ester" blend (% ester content unkown though) In my opinion, a very underated brand, and they often go to various shows and offer a discount, which is where I've got mine so far!
Both Pete and I are now waiting for Oilman to appear!

It won't be bone dry. If it was bone dry you would have found out by a) the unmistakable noise of an engine running dry, b) the fact your oil pressure light will be on and c) You'd manage about 10minutes of driving before a piston rod flies through your bonnet.

You can have over 3.5litres of oil in the sump and the dipstick will be bone dry. the sump holds about 4.5 litres.

It is possible the garage could have underfilled it, check your bill for how many litres of oil you've been charged for (should be 4.5). The only other possibility is your burning it, regular checks in between services will easily identify this.

millers oil is excellent, i used 10w 60w and its fine. best thing is they just down the road in brighouse so just pop down when i need some oil or octane booster and get a discount for buying direct.

Have you checked that there is no leakage around the oil filter? That happened to mine and I didn't notice the leak because the oil was fresh and clean and the car was standing on hardcore. Check that there is no oil collecting on the undertray.

The oil filter is clean as a whistle, like you said if it was bone dry the oil light would of appeared ,this was only a figure of speech, when i checked the dipstick IT was bone dry understand fully that theres about 3.5L in the sump ,but still can't understand where the rest has gone.No oil leaks (i know this cause i pressure washed the engine not so long ago the engine bay is spotless)no oil on the drip tray, and certainly no plumes of smoke out the back.
Even my pressure guage read 80lb/ft per square " on load and around 45lb/ft idle so can;t for the life of me understand where it's gone.
I'l try millers for now if i see any improvments i shall use all the time.
Should I change the viscosity in the summer opinions please .
and thanks for the response people.
regards lee
