when did UK STI 7,s come out???
what year did subaru start selling the UK version of the sti 7?a mate of mine has been to look at a car on a Y reg. the hpi and the seller say the car is a UK version, but the car looks blatantly like a JDM to me,it has the pink "i"grill badge, folding mirrors, rear wiper and all the badging of an import,is it possible to go to subaru and ask them,or is there another way?

Just had a look at some old mags, STi type UK not listed as new in 2001 and the bug came out in 2003, so probably about 2002.
So that makes a Y plate car an import

Deffo a JDM import.
UK STi 7 wasn't out on general release until the 02 reg plates I do believe.
The spec sounds exactly like a JDM so if the owner is lying about that, what else are they lying about.
Plenty of good ones for sale so shop around and be prepared to travel a few miles for the right car.
The guy that bought mine had to drive around 400 miles each way!!!

DVLA are quite spectacularly bad at accurately recording cars' details, especially imports, so I wouldn't put too much faith in what it says on the V5. However, if it has a rear wiper and electric folding mirrors then it's definitely an import, no question.
That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it, of course - it is a better car than the UK bugeye STI, with more toys and a more powerful engine.

There never was such a thing as a UK STi7 as that would have been an 01MY. The first STi Type UK was 02MY which should therefore be an STi8...............

No question - Japanese spec and therefore Japanese import. It could have been first regd in the UK, and would therefore be ambiguous on the V5.
STI 7s (Mike wincing.... ) - ie bugeyes, were available from 2002 onwards, on the 02 reg.

Anyway, to be constructive for a moment - UK STi was not available at Y reg. The UK STi's I've driven do not have rear wiper unless I was missing something obvious. Therefore, whilst the car may have been first registered in the UK (i.e. imported brand new), it sounds very obviously like a Japanese spec import to me.

The steering wheel should also give it away.
The JDM cars started off with a 4 spoke Momo, similar to the WRX.
UK STis started with a three spoke silver version. Europe versions had the four spoke version though.
Brian Longs book has JDM STis being launched on 24/10/00.
Europe STis launched on 11/9/01.
