Do i smell engine trouble?
Probably heard this a thousand times, but it's worrying me. Driving down a slip road this morning to join an A road, engine had just warmed up, had my foot down but i wasn't thrashing it, i was just about to change gear from 2nd to 3rd when the car suddenly jolted then pulled back, this has never happened before but then i've only owned the car since march. My petrol has had just gone on to empty so could it be possible that it was something to do with the flow, i always use optimax and always warm the car up and cool it down at the end of my journey, whether i put my foot down or not.
Can anyone give me any advise on what could have caused this. Supposed to be going on a camping trip tomorrow so the last thing i want to do is make matters worse by using the car if it is an engine problem, i do have the full subaru warrenty and breakdown cover which will give me peace of mind, but do i take the risk.
Also my hubby says it's not necessary(sp???) to cool car down when making short journeys even tho i've used the turbo, is this right?
Cheers Mrs Carlos

The hitting a brick wall is well documented here, but - I've completely forgotten what it indicates
The MAF gets blamed for most things, I'll put my money on that until told otherwise

Fill it up and it shouldn't happen again.

I bet you had just gone round a roundabout a couple of hundred yards before???
If so, then this is a common Impreza feature since forever. The fuel surges to one side of the tank and the pick up doesn't get any for a while.
It has been known to happen on up a to 1/2 full fuel tank.
Don't do hard (right?) turns on less than 1/2 a tank of fuel...

If it was just a stutter and you were near empty on the fuel guage then it was most likely temporary fuel starvation. Stop playing the fuel lottery: don't let it run down so low!! Problem solved.
IIRC If you get the sensation of "hitting a brick wall" as its been described on here, then its probably the ECU performing the none to subtle fuel cut to protect the engine, usually happens if the car overboosts.
