Another funding idea?

Webmaster dude, how about selling @scoobynet.co.uk e-mail addresses? Another advertising ploy and a way to raise cash to keep it happening! Course I'd never swap my @22b.com one LOL
I don't know tech, but mines set up to forward everything to my yahoo mail account.

good idea
do you mean maybe a yearly charge or something?
This would be a nice one as it doesn't actually cost anything in terms of outlay. It would just mean that someone needed to spend time setting them up.
Or we could set up an automated form and allow payment through the shop by credit card?
What sort of charge would you suggest?

Dunno, a while back, when a subscription idea was proposed a good few folks stood up and said they'd pay. Now, I'm not suggesting an enforced subscription, but for those that would like to help......
£10 with an E-mail address, a tax-dics sized sticker and a scoobynet 'adoption' certificate like you get at zoo's? LOL
Maybe the Sticker can be dated, then we can spot the meanies wh don't renew each year :P
Cheers

You could go one futher and offer and free ISP service.
If all 3000 plus members used the service they would automatically get some free email addresses e.g. Jamie@scoobynet.net etc and Scoobynet would get a revenue share from the phone calls that the members make when they are surfing in general. Now 3000 users may not make that much money, but I believe that it is relatively easy to set up and could be a way of members supporting the service.
There are so many free ISP services around anyway and the standard is pretty much the same give or take a few, so why not let your surfing help the BBS and not some bank, building society, supermarket etc instead!
Attached is a link for Free ISP services. I don't know who they are or if they are any good, but worth investigating??

Nice idea!
Would you be able to offer the same sort of thing as hotmail though? I use that all the time and it's fantastic i think.
Ian
PS- Just realised this is my 200th post - cool hehe

Simon, might be an idea if we had a chat to avoid duplication..one of the ideas from the SIDC committee is to offer members email addresses.
I've now got in place all the technology for sidc email accounts to have a pop box or forwarding, webmail (aka hotmail) and also with a WAP interface !!!
Why reinvent the wheel ?

Hi Lee
We also have the same, except wap (but I don't think we'll worry too much ).
SIDC is seperate to scoobynet as you know.
I don't see a conflict myself as it would be a shame not to give people a choice. There are an awful lot of non SIDC members on this baord (myself included (I've just never got round to it I guess)).
I think it is likely that we will go ahead with the yourname@scoobynet.co.uk idea, to be honest.
Do you see this as causing a big problem?
Cheers

Not speaking to you until you become a SIDC member webmaster of a subaru bbs and not even an SIDC member tut tut
:-)
No, don't see it as a problem at all, didn't realise you had started putting things in place - just thought I could help you out since ours is done..
hey I'll start another thread...

Any interest in...
1. Formulating an ISP pilot group
2. Putting our hands in our pockets to get this off the ground?
I'm much rather put some cash scoobynet's way (and hopefully have some input into the way it is run) than an ISP that just treats me as a number.
Just a thought.....
Craig.
Is it worth considerng the formulation of a 'pilot' group to push this forward?
I'd definiately be interested in contributing some cash to see the ISP thing get off the ground

anyone can start an isp. commission is then earnt on the amount of minutes spent online by your users.
however , the commission is very very low. I think email accounts and stickers would be far more effective in generating revenue.
the biggest problem that i see is that people are moving away from the normal 0845 dialups and onto freebie isps..
