Question

I put this one up on 22b.com, but as this is a busier site....

I'm thinking of getting a SS back box for my MY00 UK turbo.

As we all know, the car's hand book states that defects, malfunctions etc "resulting from ... modification" are not covered by warranty.

Prodive claim to have the only aftermarket upgrade(s) (PPP etc) available for the Impreza which does not affect the UK warranty. (Sounds fair enough.)

However, having visited Scoobysport at the weekend (incidentally, they've moved from Unit 10 to Unit 28) I was told that fitting a Scoobysport silencer also has no effect on warranty.
Whats more, they told me that a proportion of these units go directly to Subaru main dealers for fitting to customers cars.

So what's the deal with warranty?
Should I or shouldn't I?

I am thinking of doing the same. My dealer offers 'after market' backboxes, airfilters, etc. They said that if the non Subaru part caused a failure then it could (would) affect the warranty. I will probalby go the Scoobysport route and i feel that it is unlikely that this can or will cause a failure of other parts. I will talk to Subaru UK however. I will either post or e-mail you the result of this conversation.
It is a tricky one and i certainly do not want to void my warranty.

Cool

My MY00 is going for it's first service tomorrow - and has the full SS setup from turbo back - so will let you know if the dealer notices and comments!!

Actually my wife is at home and is kindly taking it for me - so will suggest she wears a Wonderbra and low cut top and would probably get a Rover V8 conversion past them!!

Yes i know it's sexist but I love her (plus she doesn't know I've written this!!!)

Thumbs up

Like I've said on 22b, my dealer fitted my SS box but added that if I needed to make a warranty claim, I may need to refit the OE box. No real performance gain from fitting the SS item but what a sound track

If you are concerned about warranty implications, there is now a WR Sport branded rear silencer available from your Subaru dealer which definately will not affect your warranty as it's an approved and 'e' marked part. This silencer is similar to the one fitted as part of the performance package, but has slightly different internals to suit the std engine and an oval tailpipe.
Subaru part no is SACC 2137

I have a Uk MY99 with a Scoobysport Back box and midsection. Warranty wise, it depends very much on your dealer. The dealer I purchased mine from said no warranty with Scoobysport then tried to flog me Prodrive back box!! The dealer I now use have no problem, and have even said they will warranty if (when!!) I fit the down pipe.

All this a side, the new cat bypass Scooby Sport Mid Section takes the sound track to new levels, it's fantastic and a must if you already have the back box.
