Electronic - Was It You - Tag in your car??
Ladies and Gents
We've been approached by a company which is producing a very clever device and offering it to scoobynet, and a number of other car clubs.
The device sits on your dash board, and is programmed with your "club" ID ("ScoobyNet" in our case, obviously) and your username / id.
When you get in range of another car with a device fitted, their club and username pops up on the LCD screen on the device to tell you who they are and what club they're from.
The idea is that you then plug it into your PC via a usb socket and upload your history to the server. There is then a leaderboard by club, etc to show who has been seen the most, who has seen the most other people, etc.
I think this sounds like a great bit of fun, so we're really interested.
They are suggesting the cost of the unit will be around £90.
I have no idea whether this would be of enormous interest here or not?
Could you please let us know here if you would buy one should we agree to do it?
Regards,
webmaster

agreed re the price. its a shame it isn't more the 50 quid mark.
But to be honest, I would actually have one - although I'm a little ashamed to say that!
The reason, is that whenever a scooby passes me (erm.. I pass it sorry!) on the motorway I always think "wonder if he / she's a scoobynetter", so it would be quite good fun in that way.
Also, we could soon clock ourselves up the leaderboard when we go to meets / track days, etc.. and pick up 20 points in one day!
Sad, but to be honest, I'd do it.

I wouldn't buy one. Find it an odd idea personally.

Quite a cool idea Personally I think £90 is bit too pricey £50 as a limit would seem more feasible to pay - maybe could be combined with Plus Member subscription?
Would also be handy little tool if your car gets nicked - A fellow member would find it easier to spot it being driving, so can tell the owner/poilce of its whereabouts (presuming its not been disabled).

I would probably have one @ £50, but £90, no way!
Could just about find space between my gauges, sat-nav and air freshener
How about a proper group buy price, and also a reduction in yearly membership if you have one?
chris.

£50 sounds about right, maybe you could tie a reduced price in with scoobynet membership and keep the higher price for non members.
How big is this unit etc

I'm another £50 tops person. This is still rather a lot when you stand back and consider it's function/purpose. Cool for us saddos tho Just a shame it can't be done cheaper!

Hmmm... would be quite nice for when I'm back in the UK and can't wave as I'm driving a Kia Picanto hire car or something equally sh1te!
But then again I probably wouldn't put out any money for 'Nice' when I'm only in the UK every 4 months or so!

I'm sad and I like gadgets and it sounds like a bit of fun so yes I'd buy one, not for ninety quid though.
I can't do the wave thing as I don't drive a scoob so I kind of miss out on all that so this would make me feel part of the gang again

Just think of the hilarity that could be had at say, the NBO, with people driving round and round the rows just to get points...
who needs airmiles and filling station glassware
and I'm with Danbo - still expensive at 50 quid
/old woman mode on/
what about when some ****** comes up to you and makes out they know you as they've got your username and then does you over for the car

Isn't the electronic version of having your name in big letters on the top of the windscreen (with your current partners on their side, e.g. DARRREN TRACY) and maybe put a logo in the middle to indicate club and you've got a cheaper way to do things rather than the expensive electronic way

I'd happily pay £90 (or more) if it flashed up "5-0" for nearby plod, or "$$$" if there's a Safety Camera Partnership revenue van in the vicinity.
Then we could them a friendly wave too as we pass by.
