I'm trying to sell my WRX Type R and there seems to be no interest

98MY WRX Type R Limitied in Rally blue FSH with 41k has HKS 3 pod as the only modification i dont think 10995 is over the top,

Any one have any veiws??

Ray, I think it's over the top for a MY98, that's the problem... People are seeing MY98, and expecting under 10K.

The other thing is that the used car market is not particularly nice at the moment for scoobs. Dunno why, but insurance seems to have taken a hike this year?

I take it its an Import??

Maybe that has some effect?

I own a MY00 UK car and wouldn't expect to get much more than £8k .... so, £11k appears high

I paid £14.5K for my Sti 4 Type R 15 months ago (from a dealer). I'd say your price is about right. All depends on getting the interest - out of interest is yours a WRX Type R or a Sti Type R? However, perception is everything, a My 98 car is now 7 years old and people are looking at much newer cars for less than £10K. I'd hold out for a while if I were you.

I know it's a different kettle of fish so to speak but you can pick up two year old blobeye models for less than 13k now ...makes a classic over 10k look a bit steep I'm afraid

Exactly, but it depends if you think the 2 door shell is worth the extra money. I did and paid through the nose for it!!!!

The market for Scoobies is pretty horrible at the moment, especially the Classics. This will change when the good un's become rare. At the moment, the cars are going through that uncomfortable phase described by a deler friend as:

"Before a car becomes a classic i.e. very desirable, it becomes cheap"

Insurance premiums aren't helping much at the moment either, but what's new.

I doubt the two door bodyshell will comand much a a premium in most people's eyes. They just see what is a 7 year old car going for over 10k and loose interest. I think you'd have more luck selling it if you drop the price to just under 10k.

I agree with what has been said above .I bought MY96 STI V2 import about 2 years ago and paid 11K .I have been looking around and seen the same model as mine going for less than 8K . So i intend to keep it for some time to come its a great car and yes i would have another import but from a different dealer to the one i bought it from he was a right **** !!!!!!!!!!!!! but don't get me started on that one that's another story

I'd say it would be worth about £9k on gut instinct. The Uk cars have dropped and unless somebody really knows their Impreza's (face facts a lot of people out there know very little about the different models) they see a 1998 car for £11K or a 2001 car for the same money.

For the higher price you really need to find somebody who is after a Type R... and even then if it was me I'd be looking at a MY99 and not a MY98 for the price difference.

Thanks for the input guys, i've reluctantly dropped the price, seems a shame as the car is so good, i doubt if i had 10k to spend i'd get one like this in this condition

Scoobs, well rally reps in any guise seem to have a limited audience.
What with fuel costs and percieved high maintenance it can be a pain to sell.

I suppose it also doesnt help with the discounting that is going on at Main Dealers. I had a bid today on our 54 Plate Spec B Saloon of £15K with the car only having done 3,000 miles.

This is a car that is £27K brand new. The reason for the low valuation I was told (I have heard this twice now from seperate sources) That you can pick up a new Spec B for £22K. I bloomin well wish I had been able to wangle a £5K discount. The best I got was £2k.

Personally I find it quite mad and is doing little to encourage continued Subaru ownership amongst owners.

Most cars at the moment seem to be droping like stones its a sad fact these days that they lose money big time! !unlike years ago when you could change for a small amount. most cars you see for sale in places like autotrader are well overpriced people always seem to think that just because they paid x amount its still worth nearly the same.

I paid £5,500 off here for my MY97 STI 3 last June! Immaculate with more history than you could imagine, even the train ticket and hotel bill from Japan, when the guy went over to get it. More to the point, it's standard and therefore more saleable than modded Scoobs.So, you asked for opinions and mine is, overpriced, maybe £8,000 for a 98 Type R, if you are quite lucky. I must admit, if I sold mine now, I'd expect £6,500-7,000, guess I got a pretty good deal last year.

I think the market might be on its **** at the moment mate, I've had my Civic Type R for sale for a couple of months now but have had no interest, a mate who's in the business has told me its a bit of a dry season aswell, he thinks its the weather?

Thats not right mate since:

1. Type-R's and Spec C's are TOTALLY different models
2. Spec C's are 4 door and Type-R's 2 door
3. Type-R's were only made up until 2000

Type-R's have been going up in value since the change in import laws ie. no Type-R's can be imported into the UK anymore. (no model reports available)

Typical price of a '98 STi Type-R £13000

Type-R's are worth alot more than other STi's simply because they are 2 door and the DCCD.

i bought my sti type r just over a year ago i paid £10.500 it was £10.500 well spent ,if i ever do come to sell i would probebly be looking around the mid £9k mark but who knows the market may get better as cyprus scooby said i would hold onto it for now dont cut your nose to spite your face as they say............good look whatever you decide

I very much doubt that you could sell a '98 Type R for £13k. You should be able to get a mint version VI Type R for that money and a not so mint P1.

I would say around £10k for a '98.
