REAL fuel consumption??
Hi Guys
Probably the last question to ask about scoobys, but what are realistic fuel consumptions of a P!, STI (7/8) and a WRX?
Considering going back to a scooby but don't want to get too hammered on fuel!!
cheers

Depends how you drive. I've got an STI8 and get around 150 miles to a tank of Optimax. That's doing short runs back and forth to the station where the car barely gets warmed and few quick blasts. I get around 200 miles to a tank with some motorway driving but if I went for a full bore mega blast I'd be lucky to squeeze 50 miles from a tankful!!

As mjb1 says it all depends on how you drive. WRX 04 PPP can get 360+ from a tank (warning light only just on) if the journey is mainly motorway and the driver is very light on the right foot. A more varied route with the occasional blast quickly drops this to 300 per tank, and with lots of short town journeys and some heavy right foot (frustration at the constant congestion mainly caused by unecessary traffic lights and blocking of alternative routes) it can go as low as 220. If you can get onto an unrestricted road, then long high-speed journeys (120mph +) is also 250 per tank because of wind resistance and getting to the speed in the first place.
This is just simple physics - if you don't let the engine get into the high-boost rev ranges then it will act just like any other 2L car (30 - 35 mpg), if you do, then that fun factor comes at a cost, and you pay it at the pump.

On my Standard UK Bugeye WRX - 31 and 32 Average MPG on two latest fills of Optimax - range of driving was mountain areas, towns, mainroads, lanes, motorways, some spirited overtaking and generally lighter boost levels to about 4000-4500RPM but no short journeys where engine did not warm up properly. Where the mix of driving includes say 40% shorter/stop start journeys, my average goes down to 24-27MPG. If you look at the thread '300 miles from a tank', people post silly comments and don't believe me when I say I am not really trying to economise. Subaru do quote combined as 29MPG and the trick's in using the power in non-urban areas when it's safe and worth doing, looking ahead to assess traffic flow and not tailgaiting and having to brake suddenly/speed up again, letting the car coast down to roundabouts (that is slow in/fast out) and so on. However, according to the regular audible output from my OBSM - On Board Speed Monitor - (Mrs.), I don't drive like a granny.

Expect ave of about 20-24mpg. Early to late teens if you drive it hard. Maybe up to 35 on a steady cruise on the motorway.
Basically, if you're worried about economy, you don't buy a Scooby!

cool, looks like more than enough info to go on!
current motor is BM 330 coupe, getting an average of 26mpg. I still have my MY98 turbo and i reckon i was getting less than that out of it.
Reason i raised mpg was the fact that i just truned in my mileage claim work work...23,000 miles last year so if i drove a corsa cdi (like i did last summer when the scooby was nicked) i was raking in the mileage cash. But hey, entertaining drive comes first (and hence why the BM is going only 4 months after buying it - anyone know anyone who wants it??)
the other bit is putting on over 25k a year in mileage , especially boring motorway miles
cheers
